A good source of information on wind in Hawaii:

and

There are some proven wind farms in Hawaii, but none are large scale; i.e. multiple 100 megawatt farms. There are some
large scale wind farms in planning, but generally it seems that a slow state regulatory process has dissuaded large projects here along with the large investment required that the private sector seems hesitant to make here on large scale wind farms.
The process here needs to be streamlined and the rate at which the wind energy (and all renewable energy) is to be sold to the utilities cannot realistically be "avoided cost" pricing equivalent to what that energy would cost to be produced with diesel generators. It seems the situation here requires action by the Legislature and Governor, quite likely with a Special Session.
