Did anyone see the PBS piece on the closed Neodymium mine in CA? I don't think things are quite as dire as their 'expert' stated, since larger generators can be made without permanent magnets. Unfortunately, the only other way to make the generator is with slip rings and gearboxes to keep the field windings energized and to make the speed more or less constant. Also, the 'right' size for a wind generator depends on a lot of things, especially if it is to be tied into the grid. As one scales down, the permanent magnet type looks more attractive, although a variable frequency output may result, requiring frequency changing electronics, if you want 60 HZ all the time. The electronics are also needed to match phasing with the grid, of course.

From the desk of T. Boone Pickens

Army:

It is important that no one tries to use the tragedy in the Gulf of Mexico to their own benefit, but I wanted to share with you two recent newspaper editorials that help make the case for the Pickens Plan in light of the current situation.

One is from the Houston Chronicle illustrating the effect of the oil spill on our dependence on foreign oil: Click here to read the full editorial.

The second article you should read is from the Edmonton (Canada) Journal: Click here to read the full editorial.

Hey All! Posted new video above that Boone wants us to see (below msg from Mr. Pickens). Worth the watch!

Army:

At the Milken Institute Global Conference earlier this month, former CIA Director Jim Woolsey took a few minutes to talk on BooneCam about the economic and security implications of our foreign oil dependency, and he also spoke about the potential for natural gas to make a substantial dent in reducing that dependence.

I urge you to take a few minutes to watch this video and share it with your family and friends – he really does a great job of putting the situation into perspective.

Also, Members of Congress will be back in their districts next week for recess. This is your chance to keep the pressure on. Reach out whatever way you can – phone, email, town hall meetings, letters – and let them know you don’t want to wait for an energy plan any longer.

The Governor from my state is there, Kenn.

Thanks for sharing, Missy - forward progress!

All - take a minute - even less just 15 seconds - to click on the video icon if you have a camera on your computer and share with us in a 15 second video on why it’s important that we reduce our dependence on OPEC oil. Boone wants to hear it straight from the Army!

If you're on Facebook but haven't 'Liked' Boone's page there yet, we invite you to join us www.facebook.com/PickensPlan. There is some great information and interaction there with other supporters and with the Pickens team.

Thanks!

BIG news from the White House: President Barack Obama is setting the nation's sights on vehicles that run on half the fuel they now use and give off half the pollution. Obama on Friday directed the government to set the first-ever mileage and pollution limits for big trucks and to tighten rules for future cars and SUVs.

"The nation that leads in the clean energy economy will lead the global economy," Obama said at the White House. "And I want America to be that nation." The presidential memorandum he signed aims to reshape the country's driving habits long after he leaves office.

The Southern Boarder region receives a constant breeze which blows north up from Mexico, and the Baja of California. It is a natural, and logical region in which to install Power Generating Wind Turbines.

It's also the closest point in the United States to the Equator, therefore perfect for Solar generation.

Rather than being ignored by Our Federal Government. Given up to lawless international criminals. It could be protected by a jobs creating National Security Boarder fence project. Than developed for production of Green Solar, and Wind Energy. It's a vast, untapped natural resource that should not be allowed to go to waste.
