I truly believe in the KISS principle. The simpler things are the better they tend to be, the more complex the more difficult and problematic they become. I am a Sr. Software Engineer and try to apply this rule to all systems that I design and to all programs I write. It works. Many things in our society could use this principle like education, law, politics (well we could try), even our current crisis of Energy dependance.
The other thing that I think about is thinking outside the box. Again i…

TRANSPORTATION is the master key to basic survival, and the cornerstone of the economy. We all know that transportation presently depends on oil production, and oil production is peaking. We must focus first on transportation – it is the highest priority.
The PickensPlan to transition vehicles to natural gas is a great start toward 100% energy independence, but is a stop-gap measure till we can transition to all electric transportation. Electric energy is strained without adding transportation demands; so we must drastically improve efficiency .
Evacuated Tube Transport (ETT) is a patented technology where travel occurs without air friction or rolling resistance (like “Space Travel on Earth”); ETT can accomplish 50 times more transportation per kWh (or carbon credit) than electric cars or trains. ETT is silent, low cost, safe, faster than jets, and is electric so it can make maximum use of wind or PV power. I invite you to visit my page to learn more about ETT
I agree wholeheartedly with you when you say that this is a worldwide problem. Sure, the Pickens Plans is about developing wind power infrastructure in the US, but let's face it: we're decades behind the Europeans when it comes to developing renewable energy resources (Denmark, for example, already generates some 20% of its electricity from wind power). I was thinking of starting a group called something like "Pickens Plan International" in which we could show foreign models of alternative energy development with the intent of improving and expanding the Pickens Plan.
Furthermore, if we really want the Pickens Plan and reducing our dependence on foreign oil to become a key issue in the upcoming election, then we need to appeal to the largest minority group in the US: Hispanics. And for that, we need to get a Spanish version of this site up and running ASAP, as I've already said in this discussion
