“Many people in the developed world still assume the global water crisis has nothing to do with them - that it’s a crisis for ‘those poor people, over there.”

Yes
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
We formed a StepItUp group in Belchertown and have beung meeting biweekly since Earth Day 2008. The group has researched Carbon-Negative energy (CNE) sources and believe that we need to set up regional CNE support centers ASAP.
What excites you about this campaign?
The ability to reach a larger # of people. Unfortunately the production of more energy is not likely to solve any of our problems. We need to immnediately begin removing CO2 from the atmosphere. CNE is not on any prominent discussion of energy issues at this time. It needs to be there and be well understood and supported as a small universal option.
What do you want to do to help?
We have approached the Governor of MA to build the first regional CNE facility, but the funding needed is not likely to develop without help. We are testing various parts of CNE that we can with the funds. We have committed to coordinate with 350.org as our results come in. We would be happy to describe the local information project that we are conducting and believe that this model will be needed if local solutions are going to be accepted.

BTW Alan, I wanted to also thank you with your help getting through the CONCOM conundrum. You definately gave me hope of SOME kind of solution being passed. Hehe
Thanks for the heads up on the meeting of the 24th. It just so happens to be my day off but I have to work anyway to cover for the weekends I'm playing the Big-E. I'll however try to make it after
work as I'm VERY interested in the Solar initiative you described
as well as finding affordable wind alternatives, not directed solely
at commercial markets, yet still more power than a 12 volt charger
for $11,000+ dollars. The MARKET needs to catch up! Anyway thanks for the good word and stay in touch. We are in this for the LONG HAUL!

Hi, Alan,
Glad to see you on Pickens Plan, I've been putting the following message on comments to local people to tell them about our project:

As a fellow, Amherst, MA resident, you may be interested in a project in with which I'm involved in Belchertown attempting to reduce atmospheric CO2, improve soil for agriculture, an produce alternative energy, Have a look at my movie at http://push.pickensplan.com/video/video/show?id=2187034:Video:1128842.

You are right; living carbon free will not take the existing carbon out of our atmosphere but it would help if we reduced or stopped the addition of more. I am also involved with another organization promoting conservation and environmental stewardship that is taking carbon out of the atmosphere and sequestering it. Check it out at www.carbonacquisitionsinc.com.
Hi Alan,
We all share the same goal; to rid ourselves of foreign oil and clean up our environment. Some of us just have a broader vision of what we need to do. Check out our group "Live Carbon Free" and see how we are promoting conservation and environmental stewardship as the bridge to future energy developments. Regardles of what we do, it will take some time to implement on a significant scale. For immediate results we can make a huge difference by conserving what we have. We would like for you to join our group and value your input.
