PO'er.
I am a transplant from L.A., lived there 35 years and moved in 1989 to the NE US to 'city-country' as opposed to 'city-city'. I had a big shock the first time the electric went off for more than 5 minutes in my new local. That was the day I learned about self sufficiency about 17 years ago.
Bought some candles and a flashlight and went on from there. But that only clued me into 'short term survival' with my preparedness aimed at 4 to 6 weeks.
Then came 'peak oil' ' peak NG' 'peak food' 'peak water' 'overpopulation' and had my eyes opened to long term, indefinite survival.
What excites you about this campaign?
I wrote to 15 of the largest newspapers in the US and a half dozen news magazines, TV stations, 60 minutes about peak oil and not one publication was interested.
What do you want to do to help?
Help others prep for a post carbon world - was grateful for someone helping me.

Hi Allen!
Enjoyed your thoughts about peak of oil. We are at the cross roads. Oil can last 50 years, 500 years or 5000 years-the choice is ours. We have solutions-new electric trains, new nuclear power plants, new dams, new concentrating solar, new electric airplanes, new car engines... Check out CoolingEarth.org

After spending the last 2 weeks looking at the Peak Oil situation, I am in total agreeance with you, the question is how much time do we have before economic collapse. I'm not even sure my family and myself are insulated to any extent. After spending exhaustive hours reading and looking at the data I am under the conclusion that by 2010 - 2012 the economy is going to collapse. To what extent I don't know but I am sure it is not going to be good. I've started buying books on organic growth and I already own some firearms for protection, but I can't tell you what the reaction of the poor is going to be on a large scale. Although the Eroupean 05 petro situation I am sure is a glimpse of what could happen. Do you have any details on sustainable food growth areas, I.E. southern states, maybe out west? Also, is there any compounds that are around that are defensable to some extent that you are aware of?
Any input is greatly appreciated, and thank you for opening my eyes to this.
Hi. I saw your post on "why did it have to be pickens" and I've been thinking about that issue... tough to reconcile siding with a man with whom I've disagreed with so vehemently over the years, but here's my rationale....
I say there is no doubt, Mr Pickens is an opportunist... he saw personal opportunity for his business in getting bush elected in '04, now he sees personal opportunity in financing this wind farm.
Good news and good ideas are good, regardless of the source. Clemens Vonnegut, (father of Kurt) once said "if what Jesus said was good, does it matter if he was the son of god?"
Now Pickens sees an opportunity to make himself some cash, and he's exploiting the environmental movement to do so... I say fine. Consequentialist philosophy is results-based... if the net result of this whole thing is that we get more alternative fuels and become less dependant on foreign sources (and a by-product is some opportunist gets rich) I'll grudgingly say "fine by me". I HATE what he and the swift-boaters did, but I hope he is as ruthless about getting clean energy as he was about dirtying Kerry.
In the meantime, we can all do alot of little things to use less energy (and therefore consume less oil)... and in doing so, we can lower our electric bills, raise our gas mileage, and live healthier. I outlined a few ideas in a blog post here http://push.pickensplan.com/forum/topic/show?id=2187034%3ATopic%3A193424 When you get a minute, drop me a line and let me know what you think.
Your writings are right on. The world economy is based on ever increasing GDP and consumption, increasingly so with media providing the drugs that addicts and dupes everyone, lobbyists who stack the deck for ever increasing consumption (bigger cars, bigger houses), and the list goes on. There is a slow train coming....

At first I thought you were just another forever oil 'tard but after actually reading the post I see you are in fact a Peaknik.
1 unit GDP = 1 unit GHG = 1 unit Population = 1 unit Petro Product
"Its the economy, stupid!" It really has to go!
