This is a group for people who are interesting in investing in the Pickens Plan both financially and globally. I am not sure how exactly to go about investing so I created this group to discuss what action we need to take to accomplish this.

Profile Information

Are you interested in becoming an organizer in your area?
Yes
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
I have experience designing biogas facilities for the agriculture industry. I also have experience in electrical power generation (nuclear) and electrical power transmission.
What excites you about this campaign?
I would like to help reduce our dependence on foreign oil. I would also like to help homeowners become independent from the substandard electrical power distribution system that many of us have to endure in the U.S.
What do you want to do to help?
I would like to help to remove the obstacles which discourage development of anaerobic digestion facilities. The permitting process is onerous, and legislation is needed to allow methane from AD facilities to be sold to the distribution system.

I would also like to help promote NGV's in the mid-Atlantic region.

Dave, did anything come up relating to natural gas or methane...like ngv's, conversions, anaerobic digestion, etc?

PV America was pretty good. I thought the biggest news was about incentives coming down the road and creative financing. NJ right now is probably the best place to do solar with regards to incentives, but it looks like PA might be surpassing NJ regarding incentives if they can get their ducks in a row. Great incentives. $2.25/W and an SREC program (though they call it something else) that lasts as long as you produce power (as opposed to the 15yr limit on NJ's amazingly good SREC program).

As for financing it looks like PPA (power purchase agreements) is where it's at. My favorite plan for the future is where the city creates bonds to fund solar projects, finds investors for the bonds, and then puts the panels on residences or commercial enterprises where the city receives payment via higher property taxes for those using the panels. That way if the tenant changes the panels stay and continue to get funded. This makes it much easier to find funding partners because it's not going to end up a problem when tenants change.

Anyway, there needs to be some financial tools into place like this to make solar truly on par with grid. It's being done in a lot of laces in California ... Berkley being the best example.

Anyway if anyone is interested in more info let me know.

Hi Any Hoover. I just signed up. I just got back from the PV America conference and they spoke there about some novel ways to fund alternative energy that has really made it take off in some places where local investment was limited. I'm also working toward getting dsire accreditation for a Solar PV training course that I've given in the past, that should be useful for getting the technical expertise and certification for local individuals to install these and other systems.

Just thought you might want to know what I was doing ... and if there's some overlap where we can help each other I'm all ears.

Thanks!
Dave

While I lack education and understanding of alternative options I do know that any group effort requires "grunts" to keep things running. I am willing to help in whatever capacity I can. I would be willing to go and learn how organized groups work efficently and productively. I live on the eastern shore of Md. My e-mail is oopsbaer@yahoo.com.

Hey,
I just insulated my Mom's floor in the crawl space. I discovered that chicken wire is the best for re-enforcement once it starts sagging. I used a staple gun. There's nothing worse in the underbelly of a house than to see fiberglass insulation falling all over the place.
