Are you interested in becoming an organizer in your area?
Maybe--But Not Sure What to Organize
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
For a short time we had a 7KW wind generator on the farm at 5553 S. Clifton. It was not very well designed or made and we had many problems with it, but I am still an advocate of wind energy.
What excites you about this campaign?
This is the correct approach and we desperately need this all out means of making the United States energy independant.
What do you want to do to help?
I will do all I can to promote this idea. I don't know how to do this at the moment. I am open to suggestions.

Your right Ben,
But its interesting that people are talking about him as a Leader for the country...
Thanks and take care.

Hello Ben,
I would prefer to build some thing I could sell here but what I can build now is too labor intensive.
it would be good in the third world
but at 10kW and $3000 may be to big.

The smallest metal version would be about 100kW
and cost $30,000 to 50,000
With 1 megawatt costing 100,000

Mr. Martin you are so right, we must support the Pickens Plan.

i agree mr. titus and i also agree that we have to keep in mind that to do this, we need to keep promoting pickens plan to all our friends and family.

If the roof top of ever home had a solar panel that would provide all or some of the homes electrical needs the benefits would be a staggering amount.

Heres a link on a similar system

There may come a time when electricity generated by wind turbines becomes more than the power grid can accept. If and when this happens there will be a need to store the electrical energy produced.

I’ve heard of one method of storing the electrical energy and that is to convert it to Hydrogen and then store the Hydrogen produced. This is a very good method I think, but it would involve building a complex converter. I don’t put this system down. I do think the method should be seriously considered. I do think there is another much simpler means by which the electrical energy could be stored.

I would suggest that the excess power generated could be used to pump water from one level to a much higher level and then to recover the energy when needed by piping the water from the higher level to water powered turbine generators.

Both the east and west coasts of our country have sites where there are mountains near the coasts that would provide a high elevation where a reservoir for water could be made. The seas would also provide abundant water that could be pumped to the reservoirs. The water could also be returned to the sea after going through the hydro-electric generator. This seems to me a very simple method that could be implemented with present day technology. I do not think that the use of salt water would be a problem. The reservoirs could be constructed in a way that would not harm the environment and the hydro-electric generators could be protected from the salt corrosion.

There are pumps and hydro-electric generators commercially available that could be used to do as I’ve suggested. In this regard see information regarding the canal in California where water is pumped from the San Joaquin Valley over the Tehachapi Mountains to Los Angeles.

I offer this suggestion in the hope that it may be implemented by someone, as I do not have the means to do so.

Welcome Ben.
Looking forward to your comments.... Thanks for joining and supporting this grass roots effort for Americans.

Hi Ben.......thank you for joining! Where do we start? For a wealth of information, we can look to Europe as our model for developing sustainable renewable energy. Countries like Denmark, Germany and Spain lead the way in this effort and have been there for the past 10-20 years - even more. Germany’s commitment through cooperatives and local municipalities has installed 19,000+ wind turbines and millions of solar collectors, both for solar hot water and electricity.

The onshore and offshore installation of wind turbines in Denmark is producing 20% of all their electrical needs; in Spain, as much as 38% (please see examples in the photos on my page).

I mention these examples to give us a direction for inspiration and point to where we could be heading with the Pickens Plan. The technology is already there and we do not have to reinvent the wheel. These are a few of the websites I would suggest you visit to see what other have done and are doing:

1) 1) The Solar Village – Freiburg, Germany. See: http://www.thesolarvillage.com/
2) The Folkecenter for Renewable Energy – Denmark.
See: http://www.folkecenter.net/gb/overview/publications/
Under VARIOUS, read: The transition from Fossil Fuels to the Renewable Energies
The whole website is excellent and you could spend hours there.
3) Google: Samso, Denmark. This is an island off the coast of Denmark that is completely self-sustaining. http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008/07/07/080707fa_fact_kolbert
4) Read the article written by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. titled: “Global Warming: A Real Solution”

Here are a few great videos to see: “Saved by the Sun” a PBS NOVA video, and “A Crude Awakening” by Basil Gemlpke, et al. Americans need to mobilize and pressure our government representatives both on the state and national level. The Pickens Plan is a good place to foster discussion and share ideas and PUSH this plan! We can all share in this vital common cause. Good luck in your quest for a better more secure America….. Lee
