I agreee, Don. From all my work, PV solar for residential use is not ready for prime time in most locations from a pure economic payback point of view. Hawaii is a great location since they get many days of high intensity sun, have the highest ele...

Happy New Year Bruce,
Last year I helped so many members of Pickens Plan learn about personal home energy plans. It's all about conservation of power, and home power generation, things I have been doing at my residence to lower my electricity costs. Send me a friend request a to add me Bruce, I'd be honored to have you as a friend here.

BTW, Texas: I just posted an article link on my pickens page about Home Wind Systems in Texas. Your state's representatives, governor, and public utility commission officials are not in your corner with this "weak policy" on Net Metering. Instead they have the tables turned against green power for businesses and homeowners. Texas has created multiple sets of rules for loopholes and you have less rights than people in other states. You should read that article, important.

Sorry for not getting back to you Ive been busy.
I have an issue here they are planning a 500 megwatt oil fired power plant which requires 2 mil plus gal of water to cool a day besides the affect on our air . Im looking for some info about large solar arrays and what they can provide how to calculate ie ie
I no this doesnt help you but im venting ...

Welcome aboard Bruce!
Your Blogs are right on the mark, and the new Residential PV Solar group is great. Very good discussions.

I would like to invite you to another group, with a slightly larger audience of PP Members, where you may post links back to your discussions & groups:

Bruce,

For your info, Auntie Tutu wrote that all of Hawaii's electric utilities run on imported crude oil.

Bruce,

We did take the plunge and installed solar panels this month. I was worried about the cost but after more research I could kick myself for not installing earlier. My monthly home improvement payment is smaller that my monthly electric bill. We recieved a $17,400 rebate from the electric company which is part of a Federal incentive plan. We recieve a one time $2,000 tax credit on 08 taxes. The loan is tax deductable. You can ask for substantially more when you sell your home. The county will not increase my property taxes. You won't need to pay capital gaines on the solar panel portion of home sale, but pocket it tax exempt. Best thing yet, you get back every penny when you sell your home. Oh ya, It feels great being self suffient and doing your part in removing that small bit money from America hating OPEC nations. My energy will increase 7-10% per year, doubling my bill in 10 years. The rebate keeps going down (%)each year until it runs out.

Go for it, you'll be so glad you did it.

I just enjoy learning, Always have. I to dont trust many of the same people you mentioned, everyone always have there motives and 9 times out of 10 its money. So I will continue to research and study on many topics and hopfully it will at the very least make me a better person because of it. I will continue to share anything I find of relevance and look forward to our discussions. Till then good night for now.

Bruce; thank you for clearing that up for me. I left your comment posted for anyone lse to read. I also went to youtube to review more vidieos and did some checking on the computer and found some people claim the have kits to install in your gas powerd viehecle. Quite frankly some look dangerous to me.There is one guy that says his buggie runs strickly on water, he was killed. You may have heard of him Stan Meyers. I dont wish to get into a debate about this. I`m just sharing information and everyone makes there own oppinion.I posted some videos on the subject . Check them out if you wish. Thanks.

Hey Bruce; I recieved an email telling people to stop wasting time on discusions about water as an energy source. I`d like for you to check out the video I posted called Salt water as fuel and the related videos and let me know if you still feel the same.I am not a scientest but it seems tome that the laws of thermodynamics might have to be rewriten.

You are probably right but I am going to do a little more investigation for fun

Profile Information

Are you interested in becoming an organizer in your area?
Maybe--But Not Sure What to Organize
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
I was responsible for developing annual electricity supply projections for Exxon as part of their long range planning efforts. I got to investigate solar, wind, nuclear, combined-cycle gas, etc. as part of this job.

I have continued to read about solar and wind and am considering solar panels for my home.
What excites you about this campaign?
It seems obvious that alternative sources of energy are needed as part of our energy mix. Our politicians don't seem to want to do what is best for the country, but what is best for themselves and their major contributors. Why else would there be such a big subsidy for ethanol?
What do you want to do to help?
What options are available?

More Discussion on Water and Hydrogen as Auto Fuel

See also blog topic Water as Fuel is a SCAM !.

  • Is hydrogen a good fuel for cars? Yes. Hydrogen has more energy per pound than gasoline – almost three times as much. In fact the large external tank for the space shuttle contains liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen and just like you would expect, they burn to form water and release a lot of energy. Your fuel pump is designed to pump li

Is Ethanol for Gasoline a Good Idea?

Ethanol is NOT a good choice as a gasoline component. OK, that is my conclusion up front!

The debate is still not settled whether making ethanol from corn makes more or less energy available for cars than the energy it tak… Continue

The Limits on the Use of Wind and Solar Electricity Generation in the U.S.

Be careful how you analyze the time to payoff residential PV solar investments.

Since solar panels generate no electricity at night, not much when it is cloudy and less in the winter than in the summer due to the sun angle, it is risky to assume you can eliminate your entire monthly electricity bill. To actually provide all of your electricity, you will need a backup battery system. Although PV systems are somewhat expensive, battery backup systems are very expensive.

California still h… Continue

Letter to House - Pass Bill H.R. 5984 "Clean Energy Tax Stimulus Act of 2008"

Written to Kevin Brady, Representative from Texas on July 18, 2008

I believe it is in the best interests of our national economy and security to increase the use of alternative fuels. As you are a co-sponsor of H.R. 5984, Clean Energy Tax Stimulus Act of 2008, it appears you share this interest.

I am interested in the extension of the 30% residential solar tax credit through 2009 and the removal of the existing $2,000 tax credit limit. I am concerned that this bill, having been referred to the… Continue
