Strengthen Our Economy And Our Employment Base In Arizona!
We hope to enlist a million members to help us bring the need to begin a new energy infrastructure into the forefront of the American dialogue. Every president since Nixon has promised "energy independence." We hope to affect the legislation introduced in the first 100 days of the next administration. We feel that people need to understand that the planet may never again produce enough oil to meet future demand. Currently, production is 85 million barrels a day, while demand is 86 billion. Our national policies need to reflect the need to find new sources of energy NOW.
I was unsure how to help organize then I had a realization: the BEST way to help organize is to spread the word. I discuss these issues everyday with friends, family, even just strangers in line at the grocery store. It's surprising how most people are concerned about these issues but rarely begin the conversation themselves. If everyone invites just 5 of their friends to join us here it will help us get a unified message in front of Congress and get our concerns addressed.
$700 BILLION PER YEAR
Oil speculators speculate the price of oil by betting on future supply vs. demand. Oil did not go to $142 a barrel because of a group of "dudes" in New York City. T. Boone Pickens has been talking about "peak oil" since 2005. We simply can not produce enough "light sweet crude" to meet demand, no matter where we drill, and the U.S. currently imports over 2/3 of the oil we use. We are transferring $700 billion each year to unstable and antagonistic regimes, such as Libya and Canada :) .. Americans are angry and ready as never before to take dramatic steps to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. A plan for ending our dependence on foreign oil has appeared on the horizon and surprisingly it comes from an oil man but he happens to be a patriotic American who has offered his leadership - something that has gotten very lost in our system of partisan blame shifting - to do some real work toward building a future that makes sense.
THERE IS NO TIME TO DELAY
…to wait and see…or to see if someone else will step up to the plate. It is time for US to roll up our sleeves and go to work. Right now momentum is working in our favor, but if gas prices retreat, the public will forget the pain, and our moment may be lost. How frightening to think that we could be looking back and apologizing to our children that we chose not to get this done when we had the chance.

with your circle of friends, family and associates. Urge them to JOIN. From your own experience you know it is very much like simply signing a petition. The larger our membership the more likely we will be successful in getting Congress to provide effective incentives for alternative and renewable energies and in insuring that our future president will treat energy independence as a matter of the greatest urgency, applying the same kind of leadership as JFK exercised when he led us with his stirring challenge to put a man on the moon in 10 years.

PERSONAL ACTION OPTIONS
We need to do more than “preach to the choir”. Sharing ideas with each other is encouraging but that will not 1) increase our membership nor 2) influence public policy. If you know someone in the press or someone who blogs - get them to cover this. Write to your Congressman/woman. Ask those in the public eye to support this plan. Print downloadable flyers and put them in your car and/or business window.
I am reminded of an ancient admonition,
“Work while it is day for the night is coming when no man can work.”
Together we will lay the foundation for a stronger, more prosperous and more secure America. Thanks again for joining us.
