Chu is Right Choice for Energy Independence…Keating is Off Basis
President-elect Obama’s pick of Nobel laureate Steven Chu to head to Department of Energy firmly plants our nation back to its roots of progress through science. For the last few decades energy policy based on politics has never firmly cemented America on the right path to achieving energy security through the advancement of science and technology. In fact, U.S. backed energy research and development hovered around $2.3 billion last year, pail in comparison to over $36 billion spent on weapons research. Since oil has become the weapon of choice many years ago for many nations that control this finite resource of carbon fuel, it is time for our nation to face this reoccurring challenge and put weapon’s development in slow gear and renewable, self-sustaining energy technology in to high gear. This country has always prided itself on creating the majority of the patentable technologies in use today around the globe that has made us a Superpower and the world a more productive, life-enhancing place. As we have done so many times before but failed, with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) Director Chu at the helm of the teetering ship USS America, we can once again chart the right course; stay on the proper heading and make, measureable progress from basic science to full commercialization in a matter of years that have not been seen since Edison, Watson, Einstein and others. Our universities have worked hand-in-hand with government and industry to further the nation’s agenda in sciences, nanotechnology and other fields. But without a true, unwavering policy commitment from the top down that there is a national mandate/ vision, an agenda with measurable goals to be met, we will once again come to our knees from our own undoing. There cannot be a third act. And with the price of oil suffering from an economic slowdown and purposely being stepped on by country’s that do not want to see our addiction end, the temptation to fall victim once again is all too comfortable and close. T. Boone Pickens has affirmed that if we did not spend almost $1 billion annually on imported fossil fuel, that there would be $7 billion in additional leveraged economic activity in the United States. There would be no recession if were energy independent! Recently having attended a National Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Conference, I felt the energy of hundreds of small companies and entrepreneurs educating and re-tooling for the new renewable energy/ energy efficiency economy. Look at the measurable gains in short order in next generation biofuels from abundant biomass feedstock. In New York (which imports 82% of its fossil fuel from other countries), we have over 2 million shuttered acres of farmland and 22 million acres of hardwood forest. However, we have universities such as SUNY Stony Brook building a $45 million Advanced Energy Research Technology Center (AERTC) with New York State’s Energy Redevelopment Authority (NYSERDA) and several other NY universities in conjunction with Brookhaven National Labs (BNL). Pushing forward, the battlefront has been established for America’s renewed and final push to be in the forefront of the next great global revolution; a carbon-free, renewable industrial renaissance headed by no better person than a Nobel laureate scientist from LBNL with roots from New York, of course.

Hi again Christopher!

I went to the RI Energy Expo this weekend and passed out petitions to every renewable booth. Any way you can help with this effort?

Here is my gentle nudge...

Petitions are the fastest way to ramp up our numbers.
Many hands make light work. Sre you still working toward 100? We really need you.

1. Download the pledge/petition :

http://media.pickensplan.com/downloads/PP/pollingsignupsheet.pdf

2. get them signed

3. fax them in to the 888# at the bottom of the pledge, asap.
(you can also scan/email them or send them -info at the bottom of the petition)

If you are able to get 100 we would be honored to have you in the 100CLUB. We need millions to get the clout we need as a grass roots organization! Please let me know how it goes.

BEST to you,.
Kim

Hi Christopher!

Can you ask my friend , Clynton, about the online form.... my technological challenges are widely documented here!

Glad you are willing to help. Please let me know if you don't get a response from him. Your area organizer could also help.

THANKS again, Kim!

WELCOME!! Just wanted to take a minute to thank you for taking the first step and joining Pickens Plan. We are real people here with real dreams and a desire to get something done to secure a better future! Here are some ways you can help.

EMAIL A LETTER TO YOUR REPRESENTATIVES
The creators of this site have given us the ability, with little effort, to send a letter to our Representatives in Washington and Governor, too. Please go to "THE PLEDGE" (at the very top of this page on the blue header). On the top of the pledge page there are three rectangular buttons- two blue, and ONE RED BUTTON, that reads "CONTACT CONGRESS". Fill in the short, standard form. Done!

DOWNLOAD AND PRINT THE PLEDGE
Carry some copies with you and get as many as you can signed and faxed back to Boone. This is how we build our numbers fast! Be a part of the "100 CLUB" by faxing in 100 signed pledges. Let me know when you are done and I will add you to that growing list! I am a member! If you need ideas on how to reach this worthy goal, please ask me!

BRING 5 FOLKS TO JOIN
The more members we have the bigger our voice to Congress! With enough members, they will finally have to listen to us, instead of the lobbyists and special interests, who will certainly try to derail this historic effort. If you bring 5 members and THEY bring 5 members… well you can do the math!

ASK OUR PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES FOR THEIR PLAN
Check out Pickens "What’s Your Plan?" petition – let’s find out what exactly each candidate has in mind!

PERSONAL ACTION OPTIONS
We need to do more than “preach to the choir”. Sharing ideas with each other is encouraging but that will not 1) increase our membership nor 2) influence public policy. If you know someone in the press or someone who blogs - get them to cover this. Ask those in the public eye to support this plan.

A GROUP FOR EVERYONE
Check out the many groups for Solar, CNG, your area, etc. Connect, learn and share. We grow stronger with your input. If you don't see a group that speaks to your interest, then start a group of your own. Born leader or organizer? If you are ready to lead, check out the “Organizers and Leaders: Start Here” group on the Groups page.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST
We can always use new, fresh Welcome Wagon “drivers”! It is important that we greet each new member of Pickens Plan (as I am doing now to you!) and let him or her know what can be done immediately. If you have some free time during the day, let me know and I will send you explicit instructions! They are also on the blog on my page.

THERE IS NO TIME TO DELAY
…to wait and see…or to see if someone else will step up to the plate. It is time for US to roll up our sleeves and go to work. Right now momentum is working in our favor, but if gas prices retreat, the public will forget the pain, and our moment may be lost. Now is our chance to be a part of the solution!PLEASE feel free to FRIEND ME so we can keep in touch and share ideas!

Thanks again for joining this historical effort. With just a little effort from each member WE CAN DO THIS!

Warm wishes for a GREEN RENEWABLE FUTURE!!!
