Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:

I do not have any other than what I read about and hear on TV. My father delivers gas in Northern Michigan to private customers and gas stations. I have heard his opinion on E85 ethanol and other other alternative fuels and he as well as I feel there needs to a serious change fast.

What excites you about this campaign?

The simple idea that we can use the natural world to power our fast paced environment is forward thinking. It can be done anywhere and the state of Michigan already has tapped into the resource but we need some serious movement in the southern half of our state. This is where the majority of our population is concentrated and we could benefit the most by this newer source of energy.

What do you want to do to help?

Well, I do not know where to begin but the ultimate goal in my mind would be to get the wind turbines going somewhere in southeast Michigan, whether its finding land to build these on or pestering our inept governement to move this process along or trying somewhat to raise funds to make this source of energy a reality for this area. One question I have is once these turbines are functional, how does it become a reality in the homes of customers? Does it provide a savings of dollars opposed to the corrupt DTE Energy in this state?

At 4:24pm on December 27, 2008, Daar Fisher said…: Hi Darren, I'm the state Internal Communication Director for the Michigan FairTax Assn which works "hand in glove" with goals of the Pickens Plan because by REPLACING the Michigan income tax, families and businesses will have additional disposable monthly income to make energy improvements to their homes and businesses.

How will passage of a MI FairTax do this? It will REPLACE the income tax and current sales tax, with a consumption tax (sales tax at point of retail sale). This means that no more state tax will be withheld from Michigan wage-earners' paychecks. What's more, every Michigan resident-family will receive a monthly "prebate" check, in amount based on family size. This will ensure that NO Michigan family will EVEN BEGIN paying the MI FairTax on goods / services unless, or until, they exceed poverty-level spending. The MI FairTax rate is 0% on all monthly spending to the poverty level; thereafter it's 9.75%. The average effective rate will be around 5.5% (see p.2 of pdf brochure). BTW, Michigan: I just posted an article on my page about Home Wind Systems in Michigan. Your state's representatives, governor, and public utility commission officials are not in your corner with this "soft policy" on Net Metering. Instead they have the tables turned against green power for businesses and homeowners. You should read that article, important.
