As Virginia's 11th Congressional District leader for the Pickens Plan, I invite you and your list of friends to join the Pickens Plan District Group VA-11. We are currently organizing neighborhood Captains to help spread the word. This is an exciting time and the first 100 days of the new administration needs to hear our voice. I look forward to working with you in the future and thank you for your desire to make a difference.

Don't forget to join the group.

The photo is a working model of an electrolyzer; there are high pressure versions that produce H2 and O2 that are used in military applications. Do they work and are they safe and economical in submarine applications; absolutely. Economical for normal people; nope. They need to be mass produced, like refrigerators or cars, to be cheap. How much would a refrigerator or a car cost without the cost-efficiencies of mass production?

Hello David,
Thanks for the comment. My note was in response to another member of the group. I was passing on an article from USA Today. See below:
The Natural Gas "bridge" to a hydrogen powered car may need to be longer than we think. That is to say that CNG may be a more important than just a short term bridge!
The Friday 9-8-08 issue of USA Today reviewed Honda's FCX Clarity and discussed the Fuel Cell/Hydrogen issue.
Some very interesting facts:
1- There will be only 200 built over the next 3 years.
2- They will be leased to Americans as a second car for $600/mo.
3- The fuel cell will not be able to produce enough power so a back up pre-charged battery is necessary.
4- The car will cost Honda over $200,000 each to build.
5- The car will not be equipped with any unnecessary electrical consuming features.
6- Their tank holds 4.1 kg (9 LBS) of hydrogen compressed to 5,000 PSI.
7- Honda will sell a home-fill unit that will make and compress hydrogen for their car.
Now here is the twist (head fake), you will have to have NG at your home. The unit they sell will make 95% of the hydrogen fuel from NATURAL GAS!
Cause you see the only current economical way to make Hydrogen is by burning/using Natural Gas!
We are a very long way from economically using electricity to make hydrogen from water!
Perhaps when those wind generators have an abundance of power they can lend a hand?
Captain Ron

So my question ( one engineer to another) to you is:
Are you familiar with any current economical way to produce hydrogen gas and compress it to 5,000 PSI?
Take care,
Captain Ron
