Profile Information

Are you interested in becoming an organizer in your area?
Yes
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
I've studied a lot about the wind energy and would absolute love to put a big wind tower on the back of my property but I'll never be able to afford it by myself but I have five acres I'd dearly love to utilize for the neighborhood and encourage everyone to start using it. I have a close friend in Israel that does build these and has a patent on them and does come to the USA to help build these, he's always so willing to help out and he's also a USA citizen, not just Israel.
What excites you about this campaign?
Everything. Reuse, Renew, Revitalize. Use old to recycle and make new things out of the old things instead of just throwing it away. We all need to do out part. We don't have recycling in this part of South Dakota, and we really need it, but how does one start that?
What do you want to do to help?
Any small thing I can do, I will. I'm not a super organized person, but I do write a lot on the internet and to friends and always encourage others to recycle. I'm interested in helping out in anyway I can. I'm retired and cannot afford all these extra things on my income.

Hi there Dixie

I am planning on relocating to South Dakota this summer to start a new career as a high school math teacher. I currently live in colorado and was wondering what insights you could give me about.

Weather
Local Culture
Things to do
The People Etc.

I live to camp, hunt, bike ride, kayak, and flyfish.

Not sure what town I will end up in but am looking at the smaller towns near the Missouri River.

Thanks

Jim

Hi Dixie. Let me introduce myself as the new district coordinator for South Dakota. There are some exciting times coming between now and the inauguration. Boone is challenging us to get to 2 million members by inauguration day. I am asking you to reenergize yourselves and contact all your friends and get them to sign up for the Pickens Army. If they don’t have email, there is a signup sheet that you can use and you can submit their names etc. if you read the news this morning, OPEC is going to raise the price of oil and reduce production by another 2 million barrels a day. We absolutely must reduce our dependence on foreign oil. I like to use this phrase when it comes to doing things. “The best decision to make is the best one. The next best thing is the wrong one, but the worst decision to make is to do nothing.” I know you must be concerned about alternative energy or you wouldn’t have signed up for the PickensPlan. Lets help everyone out by signing up everyone..please add me to your friend list and I will be in touch…thanks, Doug

Here's some stuff to look at. Trees, and other immediate obstructions can affect how well a site does. That's why this scaleable approach is so good, it's cheap to start up and can scale up as justified by actual performance of a first turbine.
South Dakota Wind Conditions

Dixie, look at this article about wind metering policy, why should your ststes residents get screwed as compared to a stste like Colorado? Answer... Monopoly utility control and corrupt local politics with public utility commissions who don't care about your wind energy rights, or the environment. When you see what resources are in your stste and compare it to the citizens ability to exploit it, compare to other ststes with good policy, it's enough to really fire some folks up.

Hi Dixie, Your whole state is a wind resource, that's why I am so disgusted that wind power is being fought in states like yours. I wrote an article called Net Metering Battleground showing that there are about 8 ststes, yours is one, that have no guarantee rights to net metering. It's because you don't even need a utility company in that state. There is so much wind and the ROI is so good that utility companies will fight to their death to not allow net metering. Because it would be their death. Any of my systems would run great there, you will have an ROI of about 5 years, whether you put in $5000 or $3,000.

So, screw the utility, my systems can take a small part of your home up to the entire thing off the grid. So, you just design a system that is self sustaining as possible. Thus, all your power is valued at what we call "avoided cost" There's no payoff to make more than you use, so you just proceed to make UP TO how much you need. My system is paying for itself in a wind zone 2, your whole state is above 4 I believe, 4 to 7...

Now imagine if all the residents of Houston decided to live like, ie on 10 acres, with animals. That's my point. It is unsustainable.

ABOUT HOME WIND TURBINE SYSTEM:

Hell Dixie,

Have a look at these windmaps and see can you pinpoint what number your area is in. 2 is OK and anything over 2 is very good. Let's double check your wind resources are good.

Check Your Wind Resources, Wind Maps

The rooftop unit has everything with it as a matched kit of components. It's really a handyman level install, many folks put it in themselves and many have an electrician finish it up for safety. Pay by credit card, paypal secured, takes me about 1 week to ship, UPS Ground.

That comes with the whole Wind Turbine, Blades, Cone, Tail, Roofmount Kit, Charge Controller, Two Solar Panels, Hardware, and Inverter. The whole Kit of matched components. I sell units daily so, they will be subject to availability. Did you see the blog post about the 30% federal tax break law, as soon as word got out on that new tax incentive just passed, bam.
Here's a link to most of the details about the rooftop kits and becoming a dealer if you are interested.

Hi Dixie.....thank you for joining! Education is the key to knowledge, but where do we start? After you familiarize yourself with the information at this website, a wealth of additional information is available. We can look to Europe as our inspirational model for developing sustainable renewable energy. Countries like Denmark, Germany and Spain lead the way in this effort and have been there for the past 10-20 years - even more. Germany’s commitment through cooperatives and local municipalities has installed 19,000+ wind turbines and millions of solar collectors, both for solar hot water and electricity feeding the power grid.

The onshore and offshore installation of wind turbines in Denmark and Germany are producing 20% of all their electrical needs; in Spain, as much as 38% (please see examples in the photos on my page). We are 10 years behind in implementation compared to these countries!

I mention these examples to give us a direction for inspiration and point to where we could be heading with the Pickens Plan. The technology is already there and we do not have to reinvent the wheel. These are a few of the websites I would suggest you visit to see what others around the world have done and are doing:

1) The Solar Village – Freiburg, Germany. See: http://www.thesolarvillage.com/
Watch the video in the upper left corner of the page. It tells a great story.
2) The Folkecenter for Renewable Energy – Denmark.
See: http://www.folkecenter.net/gb/overview/publications/
Under VARIOUS, read: The transition from Fossil Fuels to the Renewable Energies
The whole website is excellent and you could spend hours there.
3) Google: Samso, Denmark. This is an island off the coast of Denmark that is completely self-sustaining. http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008/07/07/080707fa_fact_kolbert
4) Read the article written by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. titled: “Global Warming: A Real Solution”

Here are a few great videos to see: “Saved by the Sun” a PBS NOVA video, and “A Crude Awakening” by Basil Gemlpke, et al. Americans need to mobilize and pressure our government representatives both on the state and national level. The Pickens Plan is a good place to foster discussion and share ideas and PUSH this plan! We can all share in this vital common cause. Good luck in your quest for a better more secure America….. Please ask 5 of your friends to join the “PLAN”……> Lee Ewald

Why is it you need 5 acres to live on? My sister also lives alone on 5 acres. I do not understand that thinking. It is not sustainable to have one person on 5 acres. I live in a 24 unit condo. The whole complex is not 5 acres.
