Are you interested in becoming an organizer in your area?
Maybe--But Not Sure What to Organize
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
When I lived in Concord, CA my exhusband & I owned a home with a solar system on our roof to provide hot water for our swimming pool & supplementing household use. It was strickly a gravity system & for the 8 yrs. I lived there, we NEVER had to turn on the pool heater nor did we ever run out of hot water while keeping our water & electricity costs just below the average use in our area. At the same time, there was a neighbor in the area who actually had a windmill in his backyard which supplied all of his family electrical needs and then some; he was able to sell electricity back to PG&E.
I have also looked online at several sites about alternative energy sources being used in other parts of the world. I have been a proponent of alternative energy sources for more than 20 yrs.
What excites you about this campaign?
I am not so much excited as I am hopeful that the driving force of weaning this Nation off of depencency on oil for the majority of our source of energy and transportation will come from local groups of private citizens rather than the federal government. I do not have any faith in our Congressional Representatives & Senators to put aside their individual selfish agendas to come to an agreement on a reasonable energy plan. Instead of a behemoth organization to put together one-plan-does-it-all packagle, I firmly believe it needs to start at the local level to seek out answers to the problem that will be acceptable and attuned to the needs of that area and then build out from there. In my area, we have a communications cooperative that was organized to provide telephone and internet services. Each user is a member of the cooperative & has a voice in the services it provides. I am impressed with its success, high level of technology and customer service. That kind of success can be repeated in addressing the energy crisis we now face.
What do you want to do to help?
I would like to do whatever I am able to do. I hesitate to commit to being an organizer because I do have physical limitations and the amount of time I am able to provide, but I really want to see a system of local groups formed as the foundation of getting the plan moving forward. I am a great helper ... give me a task and I will give it my best.

Lets meet at 10:00. I like sleep. Do you know where BJ's coffee shop is? It is the coffee/wine shop next to the molalla safeway. I think they have a good roast. Would you like to meet there?

Hey Donna! I am glad you tried again, because I forgot. Dear God, our society is full of too much hustle and bustle.
Yes! Lets meet over coffee (you had me at coffee :) I am free on friday morning until 11:30 when I leave for school, and after school at about 2:00. I will be leaving for Mt. hood friday night, so if we cant get together on friday does next week sound good?
Also, there is a new feature on Obama's change.gov website. It is a "suggestion box" called the citizens briefing box. You can go there are suggest plans on current issues, like energy and environment! And the most popular suggestions will end up on the presidents desk on inaugaration day. Conveient, no? I went there and suggested the Pickens Plan, and you should too! Everyone who is part of this should. What a great opportunity.
P.S. you can call me if you want 503-307-6297, leave your number if you get the voicemail.

Hi,

Welcome and THANK YOU for joining the Pickens Plan. I just wanted to let you know that a real person out here appreciates you taking that first step.

After you've had a chance to settle in, please let me know if there's anything I can do to guide your path. The basic first steps are reviewing the current topics in the Forum, and when you are comfortable, letting others know about the website. The people here are interested in making the plan a success and those you invite should be able to see for themselves that this is the right place to be.

Here are further steps you might consider.

- Sign up to lead or help on the District page.
- Visit the My Energy page and get involved.
- Work your contacts to increase press coverage.
- Write to congressional representatives directly.
- Use Pickens Action buttons or call (202)225-3121.
- Speak out for ending our dependence on foreign oil.
- Write letters to the editor of your local paper.
- Download flyers/etc from here or here.
- Download the Petition and ask others to sign it.
- Start a company to build wind turbines/solar panels.
- Start a financing firm to invest in those companies.
- Tell everyone you know about PickensPlan.com.

Decide for yourself what you can do, but definitely do something.

Welcome once again, Happy Holidays and thanks for signing up.

Clynton
