Maybe--But Not Sure What to Organize
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
Wind power was first introduced in my area of the state (Texas) before the REA (rural electric associations) brought electricity to rural areas. Wind generators powered homes in remote areas with storage in banks of batteries in cellars. In our area there are presently several wind generator projects underway. I first became acquainted with Mr. Pickens project when I received a letter from Mesa Power saying they intended to use eminent domain to obtain a 250 foot right of way across my land. Eminent domain was based upon two new pieces of Texas legislation that allowed the formation of water authority districts in small areas. Such a water authority was sought by Mr. Pickens in Roberts County, in the Texas panhandle. Water authority districts qualified as a governmental agency with the power of eminent domain whereas a private transmission line did not. The second piece of legislation allowed transmission lines to be piggy backed with the water line. Mr. Pickens proposed to pump millions of gallons of water from the Ogallah aquifer to the DFW metroplex. The Ogallah runs the breath of the area proposed by Mr. Pickens wind project. However, the Ogallah is the life blood of this area and contains "fossil" water . The aquifer recharges very slowly, not a very environmentally friendly or responsible project . I agree with the prospect of wind power but like Mr. Pickens do not really want them on my land. He proposes to put them on his neighbors land instead of his own because he thinks they are ugly. I simply do not want my beautiful quiet rural area that abounds with wild life blemished by such unsightly things but I have a choice on whether to participate or not participate in having wind generators on my property. With eminent domain of transmission lines I do not. I also understand that Mesa has decided not to cross my property ( and my house) but to put the transmission lines across the road. To Mr. Pickens credit, I understand that he is forgoing the water project (which I consider unthinkably irresponsible)but will file for a certificate of necessity with the Texas Public Utility Commission to build the power lines. It is my opinion that transmission lines of this caliber must be placed underground for both environmental and national security reasons. If they are placed underground, I think landowners will willingly participate and promote such a project. If not, there will be much dissent by landowners. If Mr. Pickens is truly an environmentalist and interested in the security of our nation as he claims, he will not only scuttle the water project but place the transmission lines underground. He has the opportunity to lead on both wind power and making our energy sources more secure and environmentally friendly . A web of overhead high powered transmission lines would be a tempting target for America's enemys. Western Europe has had large wind power projects for many years. Additionally, their transmission lines are all underground. If you look at developments in large metropolitian areas of the US, you will find that new transmission lines are placded underground. Let's do this right for a change.

Happy New Year Dr.,
Last year I helped so many members of Pickens Plan learn about personal home energy plans. It's all about conservation of power, and home power generation, things I have been doing at my residence to lower my electricity costs. Send me a friend request a to add me Dr., I'd be honored to have you as a friend here.

BTW, Texas: I just posted an article link on my pickens page about Home Wind Systems in Texas. Your state's representatives, governor, and public utility commission officials are not in your corner with this "weak policy" on Net Metering. Instead they have the tables turned against green power for businesses and homeowners. Texas has created multiple sets of rules for loopholes and you have less rights than people in other states. You should read that article, important.

Thanks for Joining Up Dr., WELCOME ABOARD!

(1) Contact Congress: Please Go to THE PLEDGE (very top of this page) On the top of the pledge page there are three rectangular buttons- two blue ones and ONE RED BUTTON, that reads "CONTACT CONGRESS" . Fill in the short, standard form. Done! Thanks.

(2) Personal Energy Plan: In addition to political support and action here, I encourage you to take personal action, a Personal Energy Plan in which you take control of your electricity. I have helped other members learn about saving energy by conservation methods and have helped other members learn about home wind/solar systems. I am glad to help you learn and answer any questions. On my page is info and links that will help you learn about power use, conservation, and home generation. These are things I have done myself at my own residence, and Dr. I can help you do the same.

(3) Add A Friend: Everybody needs friends, right? By every comment or under users pictures on the site you'll see links to "+ Add as Friend". This will send a friends request to that user. This makes it easy to introdce yourself and meet people here, it's great. Add me if you like, I'd be honored to be your first friend here. I have an interesting and useful background if you want to have a look at my page. Adding friends, Send Friend Request, makes it easier to communicate, ask questions, talk to each other. You can search users by city, state, college, etc. and "+ Add as Friend". You may even find members from Quanah, Texas. This community is a great place to meet people and make friends, like me. I now have made friends all over the United States.

(4) Tell A Friend: Please email the Pickens Plan video to everyone you know. www.pickensplan.com. Ask them to JOIN. Ask them to pass it along. Time is of the essence. If every member had 10 friends join today, we could put the number of members over 1 million very quickly!
