Here is something I posted yesterday on the district leaders board - it frames the process nicely.
....I simply try to talk about it with everyone I meet and run in to. EVERYONE wants to get off of foreign oil and EVERYONE understands that we need to keep the money in this country. WE just need to gather their names. IT really is quite easy - Boone has done the hard work.
Keep it simple. I say... " I am gathering support for T. Boone Picken's Plan to get us off of foreign oil. Can I add you to the 1.4 million supporters already on the list. We simlpy must keep those billions in THIS country."
I try to get 2-4 every day and they add up. I know for certain that it works.
The key points are:
1. We can not just "spread the word" - people are busy, and although they mean well, most will not take the time to go to the site and join us. We need to control the process by taking name, address and email. It takes just a few seconds to input manually.
2. Everyone that I signed up gets Boone's emails. Some have become more involved, ALL have become more informed. One person at a time we change the paradigm of thought on energy in this country.
3. We are lucky, unlike our forefathers, we do not need to take up arms to change the course of history. We need to go out of our comfort zone a bit and ask. Are we willing to do that?... or not?
4. When will we ever have a chance like this again? We must put our heads down and plow like hell. Our numbers will be critical to get Harry Reid his "60 votes" he will be looking for (Energy Summit) when he puts transmission, smart grid and renewables on the table. WHEN WILL WE EVER HAVE A MAN LIKE BOONE AT THE HELM, willing to spare no time and expense to change the course of this nation?

Please read, sign, and fax to the number listed at the bottom of the Pledge page. It would be a great help to the Community if you could download the pledge, distribute, and persuade others to sign. The Community feels this is the best way to get the attention of state and federal lawmakers. Kim Anderson has other types of sign-up sheets. This is a great way to let lawmakers know of your interest in the reduction of foreign oil.

We must get to 2 million supporters, and many more, if we are to have the influence and support that Harry Reid and gang will need to hang their political hat on when they put transmission, smart grid and renewables "on the table". When will we ever have an opportunity like this... or a man like Boone to push this rope, again?

As you share the plan, you will see, that everyone wants to get off foreign oil, and keep the money in this country. They get it. But, let's face it - everyone is busy. We can not leave it in their hands. We must add them manually. We can do this.
