Happy New Year Garrett,
Last year I helped so many members of Pickens Plan learn about personal home energy plans. It's all about conservation of power, and home power generation, things I have been doing at my residence to lower my electricity costs. Send me a friend request a to add me Garrett, I'd be honored to have you as a friend here.
BTW, Texas: I just posted an article link on my pickens page about Home Wind Systems in Texas. Your state's representatives, governor, and public utility commission officials are not in your corner with this "weak policy" on Net Metering. Instead they have the tables turned against green power for businesses and homeowners. Texas has created multiple sets of rules for loopholes and you have less rights than people in other states. You should read that article, important.
Garrett, I sense your frustration. However, your statement was rash. One of the real implications of these reserves being built up is due to our state of war situation. Should their be an immediate distruption of oil, the reserves are used, not for the people, but for the emergency services, military, and other critical infrastructure needs. As mentioned previously, 70 million barrels is not even a week's worth of fuel in this country. Please try not to let political views drive your vision. Yes, we need to do something, but doing the wrong thing can be worse. P.S. I remember the days of gas rations.... I know... I pumped gas at what was once a full service Texaco station... we washed windows, checked oil, tire pressure... without anyone ever asking I'm older than I look, been there done this... and I'm ready to help make a change that is real (not made for media broadcast).
Tapping the strategic oil reserve is no better than John McCain's plan for a summer tax vacation from the national gas tax. It is such a short term plan that it won't matter at all even in a time frame that economists normally term "Short-run." John McCain AND Mr. Pickens HAVE proposed domestic drilling, but Barrack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, all the other Democrats AND the radical environmentalists who are funding their campaigns have refused to listen to SEVENTY PERCENT of Amercans who think we need to drill offshore and in ANWR. THAT is a Short-Run plan that will bridge the gap between now, when alternative fuels are technologically and economically unfeasible, and the future, decades from now, when the technology and economics will have caught up and cause those ideas to be feasible on the large scale that is needed.
Garrett,
I know Math is tough, but try to stay with me.
If we release 70 million barrells from our strategic reserve, how many days will it last when we use 21 million barrels a day?
Maybe 4 days.
What good is that??
Lets get a real issue to stand behind like drilling. #1 that will send a message loud and clear to the middle east that they are losing their best customer???
Besides, if we are still paying $3 a gallon at least it is going to an American company not some nut case!
Just a thought!
Welcome to the Pickens plan. We all share the same goal; to rid ourselves of foreign oil and clean up our environment. Some of us just have a broader vision of what we need to do. Check out our group "Live Carbon Free" and see how we are promoting conservation and environmental stewardship as the bridge to future energy developments. Regardles of what we do, it will take some time to implement on a significant scale. For immediate results we can make a huge difference by conserving what we have. We would like for you to join our group and value your input.
