Are you interested in becoming an organizer in your area?

Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:

I am employed by a local builder. We recently started offering total solar homes. I have always been interested in solar energy and even more so with the rising cost of electricity in our area. I have been reading about the pros and cons as well. Sharp.com has a website with great info and a calculator to see if solar panels are worth the cost to you. In our state we have no rebates or incentives to purchase solar panels. We need to get this going in our state. I call the Mississippi Development Authority to see what can be done to have these incentives for Mississippi. She said that people need to make phone calls and request them. Also to write to congress. I have just recently found out about this and haven't made any headway to get it started.

What excites you about this campaign?

I am excited because it is a great start to get our planet cleaned up and headed in the right direction. To be free from foreign oil purchasing and start cleaning up our planet.

What do you want to do to help?

I would like to promote solor home building and educating people that are interested in them. We haven't not sold any at this time because the cost is high. I would be interested in spreading information on new technology on new (less expensive) solar panels. People are very very curious but think they are not affordable at this time and some people think they may never be affordable. I would like to see companies mass produces solar panels and make them affordable. People know that solar panels are good for the environment, but they honestly think they can't afford them or the panel won't pay for itself. The cost has to come down.

The larger our membership the more likely we will be successful in getting Congress to provide effective incentives for alternative and renewable energies and in insuring that our future president will treat energy independence as a matter of the greatest urgency, applying the same kind of leadership as JFK exercised when he led us with his stirring challenge to put a man on the moon in 10 years.

THERE IS NO TIME TO DELAY
…to wait and see…or to see if someone else will step up to the plate. It is time for US to roll up our sleeves and go to work. Right now momentum is working in our favor, but if gas prices retreat, the public will forget the pain, and our moment may be lost. How frightening to think that we could be looking back and apologizing to our children that we chose not to get this done when we had the chance.

PERSONAL ACTION OPTIONS
We need to do more than “preach to the choir”. Sharing ideas with each other is encouraging but that will not 1) increase our membership nor 2) influence public policy. If you know someone in the press or someone who blogs - get them to cover this. Write to your Congressman/woman. Ask those in the public eye to support this plan. Print downloadable flyers and put them in your car and/or business window.

YOU MAY FEEL INSIGNIFICANT
Individually, we each feel the same way, but together we will lay the foundation for a stronger, more prosperous and more secure America. Thanks again for joining us in this historical effort!
