Maybe--But Not Sure What to Organize
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
I'm pro-biofuels and drive a diesel that runs primarily on bio-diesel. I'm also pro-solar, and am watching panel prices; when I can generate 1600kwh/month from a home system for $10k, I'll install one. (Or when a company, government, or utility offers reasonable leasing plan, ie Citizenre). I'd call myself a "sensible environmentalist" and believe that the extreme views expressed by many environmental advocates fail to accept economic realities, which has the ultimate effect of impeding environmental progress.
What excites you about this campaign?
This is the single largest commitment to alternative energy I've seen yet. It's putting your money where your mouth is. It shows the people of the US and the world what is possible, and that American individuals and the private sector CAN address the worldwide energy, economic and environmental crisis - and do it in a very pro free-market way. Bravo.
My only concern is that diverting natural gas to the transportation sector, unlike biofuels, still removes currently sequestered carbon from the ground and pump it into the atmosphere. If it were consumed at power generation plants, there is at least the possibility or capturing the C02 and re-sequestering it. That's impossible to do with automobiles.
But I recognize the importance of this commitment to alternative energy, and fully support your effort.
