- Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
- I conceived, founded and was executive director of Solar Entergy Industries Association, a trade association located in Washington, DC, I also owned and published two newsletters in the solar field -- one for professionals, one for the ermerging "industry." SEIA was instrumental in building public interest in solar and other altermative energies during the oil embargo of the early '70s. It lobbied successfully for large development and installation subsidies. SEIA still thrives. Prior to and immediately after establishment of the SEIA, I was probably the best-informd person about the industrial and marketing base for a new solar energy industry. I later headed and took into public ownership a pioneer international distributorship of solar "panels," as founding CEO of Natural Energy Corporation in Washington, DC. After reaching profitability within 12 mnths of going public, I merged it upward into an Ohio corporation to assure adequate capitalization. I later served as CEO of another startup solar company which was merged upward.
- What excites you about this campaign?
- Without prompt development of all alternative energy sources that are economically sustainable, I have no doubt that the U.S.A. will fall into terminal decline as a major force in the world. In my view, the question is not whether, but when. T. Boone Pickens has the vision, the experience, the devotion, the energy and the seed money to save this country in energy independence. I want to be a part of his work.
- What do you want to do to help?
- If there is to be a Washington office, I can provide expertise and leadership in that work. For many years I owned a Washington-based national trade association management and government relations firm at K and Connecticut. I sold it to employees when I took the NEC position in order to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interests.
