hey jay, i just wanted to let you know about this really amazing documentary making the rounds in texas right now. its a history of oil addiction from oilmen behind "big oil" and has some really cool things to say about alternative energy sources. totally inspiring.

here's the trailer:

it's playing in austin again this weekend. anyway, just thought you'd be interested :]

Come on over and let's watch the debate together, have some snacks, and get ourselves organized for the next 1M signatures!

Jay,
Thank you for your reasoned comments about ETT. This is the Pickens Plan ETT group that you might like to participate in.
I look forward to future discussions.

Jay,
With your engineering and science experience I thought you might want to visit my page.
TRANSPORTATION is the master key to basic survival, and the cornerstone of the economy. We all know that transportation presently depends on oil production, and oil production is peaking. We must focus first on transportation – it is the highest priority. The PickensPlan to transition vehicles to natural gas is a great start toward 100% energy independence, but is a stop-gap measure till we can transition to all electric transportation. Electric energy is strained without adding transportation demands; so we must focus on drastic efficiency improvement.

Evacuated Tube Transport (ETT) is a patented technology where travel occurs without air friction or rolling resistance (like “Space Travel on Earth”); ETT can accomplish 50 times more transportation per kWh (or carbon credit) than electric cars or trains. ETT is silent, low cost, safe, faster than jets, a fourth the cost of freeways (yet over 10 times the capacity), and is electric so it can make maximum use of wind or PV power. I invite you to visit my page or the ETT group, and learn more about ETT.

Here's how you can help.

PLEASE email the Pickens Plan video to everyone you know. www.pickensplan.com. Ask them to join. Ask them to pass it along. Time is of the essence. If every member had 10 friends join today, we could put the number of members over 1 million very quickly!

If we can not get critical numbers how can we take advantage of this golden opportunity? High gas prices have "woken up" America to our plight and a paradigm shift like not other is in the wind. We need to do this now.

So many new members write "I want to help, what can I do?" This is a start. We may not get to the next step if we can not get this one done.

Our leaders can not ignore millions of members of the Pickens Plan. We are not there yet. One person can make a difference.

Let me know how it goes.

Maybe--But Not Sure What to Organize
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
I am a chemical engineer and worked in the petroleum and chemical industry through most of my career, including managing a hydrogen pipeline business on the Houston ship channel. As a consultant I became involved in vehicular fuel demand in the 1980's and have tracked energy demands and trends ever since. In the 1990's I got an MS in Futures Studies and began looking harder at long term energy demand and alternatives. I am currently awaiting defense of my doctoral dissertation.
What excites you about this campaign?
This is the first cohesive program to recieve broad public exposure and it is well conceived. There are no easy, simple, singular answers to the energy dilemma and this program recognizes that. While I might argue that more is needed than is explicitly addressed in this plan, it is a good, viable, and realistic MAJOR step in the right direction. And for that it deserves support and, hopefully, success!
What do you want to do to help?
While my time and availability are generally good and flexible, preparation for my doctoral defense and prior commitments may limit me to some extent through the fall. Longer term I could take a more active and contributory role. My doctorate inovlves both system science and futures studies with an emphasis on recognizing unintended consequences and developing robust strategies and proactive plans. Those skills would seem likely to be useful as this project evolves.
