- Like many, I want to be more Green, promote more sustainability and have become active in my local foundations brainstorming on making significant changes in the way we treat Mother Earth!
I want (truly prefer to even say "demand") wind turbines off Long Island Sound...there's no reason we can't have this alternative, renewable energy in our backyard...we were fools to let it get knocked down time and time again - Its time is overdue! I also want them on my own house...we need to change our ordinances/zoning...what are we waiting for?
Several other countries are utilizing them with exceptional results and phenomeal positive residence support/feedback...thought we were supposed to be the leaders...the USA are the worst offenders or contributors to pollution/energy waste/largest carbon footprints...shameful!
From what I understand we just need to fine-tune the transmission dilemma issues and improve how to get it from the grid to our homes... we must CONTINUE to locate an area in the country to put a mass amount of these up and transform how we provide energy! We must do the same with solar panels...we must provide mass plug-in sources for our new clean energy battery cars...we must refit the car manufacturers' plants yesterday...NOW...forget the "by 2015 or 2020" dates or we will never be able to recover from the disaster we have gotten this globe into. (Typically I'm such a positive person, but this topic has gotten me outraged and active due to all the inept bafoons who let it get this far without oversight or accountability! and who we are now bailing out no less - we citizens need bailing out for goodness sake...if I ran my household into the ground like the ones we're bailing out I'd be in a homeless shelter!)
We must explore more & provide grants for technologies such as bio mass, algae for energy and the like. We need to build eco-friendly, greener residences as well as commercial and industrial. We need to help people get off the grid! We need to promote green jobs...a multi-trillion-dollar boon I'm sure!
I'd love more innovative residential solar panels (it's obviously working well for commerical applications the best)...MIT is working on some interesting stuff...with our style home the older versions are not conducive so we keep looking for newer technology so we can reduce our ghastly monthly energy bills...astronomical is an understatement!!! Our local rebates from LIPA are ineffective if not outdated b/c of local ordinances, variances prohibiting its use.
We need to preserve our natural resources, reverse global warming and wake this country up on our oil dependency...simply use our most intelligent engineers and inventors and get the job done already...we are being curtailed either by the govt agenices or local agencies at every turn and it is sickening.
And don't get me going on how we conduct our AGRICULTURE in this country...revolting! The damage it does to the animal, land, air, water and our future if not our ultimate SURVIVAL is over the top idiotic and archiac and needs serious welcomed revamping!
I'm just holding faith that President Obama is listening and going to implement a new regime and embark upon a much-needed new paradigm from its outspoken and proactive citizens or he'll have a REVOLUTION on his hands!
We need to operate more from the heart center...not the $$$ center!
As evolved human beings we need to lead by example, not by greed, destruction and bankrupt beliefs...look where that old paradigm has gotten us? We need to operate from LOVE...love of life - of all life...we are all ONE!
Energy is a common thread I'm sure we all could unite under and weave a new zest for life, a new zeal for preservation for our grandchildren and so on.
We need Unity...after all we are the United States of America!

cecil friend said… - hi jean...you show great passion and good energy in your comments, I can identify with your awareness and spirit....unfortunately we have giant industries built around carbon footprint feedstocks.....petroleum, coal, petrochemicals and so lying out there on the perimeter or in the center of this huge giant industrial petrochemical infrastructure is the factors of time phase, do we do a war time build up of satellite alternative energy sources..??...or do we phase them in based on sound surveys of economical and regional necessities.??.....employment phase....how do we retrofit the people now employed with their approval....remember the term...job security.!! and also the owners and stockholders of these firms......these people have a large amount of capital....MONEY...invested and they have a vested interest in protecting it.....SO, ...When some of these views are taken into the problem solving , the UNDERSTANDING and nature of the PROBLEM of our reliance on fossil fuels for energy as a nation becomes a lil more clearer....thats why i think we as people dedicated to having more economical sources of energy, and less harmful to our environment need to remember who and what we are in contention with........and that way we can design a responsible , practical and sustaining and ongoing solution in moving our nation forward to free ourselves from dependence not only from foreign oil , but from products manufactured from foreign countries without proper health and safety or wage concerns......I personally believe the above are all connected to the problem we are having .......We have allowed our representavives in govt. to sell us out to the companies that either manufacture or produce in partnership with these foreign govts.the above mentioned goods or services, by passing laws favoring the taxes they pay or do not pay , and the cheap source of labor, but no health and safety checks on the goods or services and the countries have total control over the pricing and production....NOW, did, or should we ever., or should they ..the govt, stop to think , HOW THIS CAN , and does effect our NATIONAL SECURITY, OUR WAY OF LIFE, OUR IDEALS AND WHATEVER ELSE YOU CAN ADD....I SAY SHAME ON ALL OF US, because this has gone on for too long , and they ..the govt...is still standing behind this wall of deceit.....because they refuse to set term limits for themselves, and we as states refuse to demand they do so...so, as they enjoy the perks and benefits and build up time and cater to the highest bidder for favorable legislation......we get what????? go figure.....if you got this far, thanks for listening, we are in for a long and possibly cruel battle with very powerful interest groups, who have everything to lose, and a long haul to gain , unless we chang the way congress works.......take care......cecil.......

I just finished reading your profile statement. I have one word...WOW! YIKES! Ok that's two words...but I couldn't help myself. The good energy in your comments alone could make us independent if we could turn it into power for our homes, cars, industry, etc.
And...we can...we must!
I would only add that we, the biggest consumers of foreign oil are the ones who can make an immediate difference by using less. If we unified that effort alone in an effective way across the population it would allow us more (and healthier) breathing room to develop the other solutions. Based on historic evidence the government and petro-industrialists don't seem to have a stake in that approach. But we do...and it's a small thing we can do easily which would have a huge effect immediately. Conserve!
The question is will we. We'll see.

Word of advice - stay focused on the Pickens plan, we are at a critical moment to make this work. Sadly, there are folks here that will try to pull you into their ideologies and self serving discussions. WE ned to stick together and get to our senators, get CNG and renewables pulling harder for this country so we spend less to foreign countries and become energy idependant. THAT is the goal.
