I would like to add some solutions now.We had a workforce during the Great Depression of the 1930s called the WPA.It enlisted men over the nation to build the infrastructure, build bridges, parks, etc. This was done to prevent the overthrow of our nation as the majority were unemployed and starving due to the stock market crash and the resulting worthlessness of tendered money. .I suggest we demand a likewise national project, with some major changes. For example,in your area, you take all the unemployed construction workers and families, hell, everyone, pass the hat, hire the best to come talk to your town about HOW to build things locally with the local laborforce, local banks and grants. What are these things?Changing cars to run more mileage with a water converter.Using restaurant cooking oil to use for car biodiesel fuels.Installing solar power on homes to return surplus to the main grid.Drought gardening techniques.Weatherizing homesThe list can go on and on,but..your community should DEMAND an end to the heavy taxation and suppression of new businesses of these sorts.Vote out your local lamebrains if they oppose this.Insist that who ever takes their place better be ready to change the local business laws-grants would be good-but lets face it-we are broke. As a matter of fact, the banks will not help-they will take their marching orders from above. This is going to have to be local, step by step everywhere to survive.Beware of strangers who show up just to argue or advocate some kind of mindless violence.Expect traitors on a payroll of some kind.Keep up the heat, get over learned helplessness, know that you can make difference-look to the Amish for a model-they get large projects done in a very unique way-I know-I've met them and how they finance community things might be helpful to a dedicated group-form unlikely alliances all over with groups above as I mentioned.Your government is going to abandon you soon, get up and start the change.god bless everyone of you who at least tries.mama

Dear Jessie, well here I am.The assumption that these kind of projects need to be large and centralised(controlled by corporations) needs to be questioned. The resistance to this will be high.Today if a family can make their own extra energy-they can't feed it back to the main grid to reduce their costs-big business does not like it at all.Along with the future of micro farming-we need to focus on energy micro projects through the nation..Like it or not, this is where we will end up anyway-so we can go the hard way-keep poring taxpayer monies for corporate welfare projects until we crash-or begin to tailor small projects according to locale now so the inevitable transition won't be so catastrophic-and it is going to be catastrophic for many.It can be done,it has been done-we need to get over our learned helplessness that our government fosters. I have seen home hydroelectric systems using nearby streams,I have seen solar panels on homes that connect to the main grid and generate surplus power,I have seen wind powered systems on homes.Notice the government(corporations)kill these kind of spending bills and research.Mother Earth Magazine has a complete CD collection of all their mags-you would be surprised what the alternatives for a home are.If you had the choice to rig up solar panels systems on your home and generate surplus energy, would you do that or continue to hook up to a central system that will continue to control the price.Solar systems are expensive and not subsidised for a reason.I think this where we start.Challenging the assumption that big is better.Your mama, still questioning mainstream assumptions
