There's SO MUCH technology that will support energy consumption that is more affordable and will harm the environment less...We need to work toward putting it to use. I agree that we need to unite and all work together to accomplish it. Maybe the one good thing about the current high fuel cost is that it's a darn good motivator!

Goodness...lets not forget Richard Branson's work for natural disposal and the energy that generates.

Wind farms of course and Solar farms along highways as in Germany. And hey GM...lets bring back that electric car you killed some years ago...I hear they worked great! And we must think of magnetic energy for travel as well. So TBP does the Windr...Ted Turner does the Solar...GM can build its company back with elec car...how about NASA diverting it's contribution to the "field" of magnetic energy for propelling cars.

The technology already exists for us to start our road to be independent of foreign oil.

I'm not a big advocate of ethanol...but, we have wind, natural gas, coal (clean), battery, hydrogen, drilling in the US and the list goes on! We need to make sure this happens now. We can not afford to "forget" like we did in the 70's. Keep the money in the US and we will see a big change in OUR economy!

Old school attitude and old money are behind the resistance.

The technology is already HERE!!! Bikes for short travel with the heath benefits of exercise. Scooters for a bit longer ride!!! Then the hybrid cars. I have had my Prius for over 2 years!!! 39 to 47 miles to the gallon in the hills of Birmingham, AL!

WE lack, sugar based E85. The engery transfer from corn based E85 is very low about 1.3 units of power from each unit of fossil fuel, but sugar is high at about 6 units of power from each unit of fossil fuel. We need to use sugar. The wind will help power the electric grid.

In California they have developed a second battery pack for the Prius making the hybrid go up to 100 miles to the gallon. WE do NOT have an engery crisis, but an imagination crisis!!!
