Hi Jim.......good to hear from you and I agree totally. It is too bad that this time we have to follow those that are 10-15 years ahead of us. We can't drop the ball this time like we did back in the 1970s. We could have been on the forefront if we had only followed the path and energy plan charted for us by Carter. That is when I installed my solar hot water system (1981) when we still had the solar tax credits. We truly need to educate and get more people on board this time. Since March, these kinds of renewable energy tax credits have once again been passed. It just makes good common sense and can save a family thousands of dollars to install these systems. Solar thermal systems are fast payback investments. If you are interested in a CD Power Point Show I just completed, let me know and I will send you a copy....Lee

Hi Jim..........Thanks for the comments about the photos on my page. Repeated trips to Germany over the past 3 years really opened my eyes to a society that is preparing for the future. They have over 19,000 large scale wind turbines and millions of solar panels installed on businesses, homes, schools, and barns. I started asking myself the question "why"? "Why Germany and not us"? I found the answer by coming back and studying the German "feed-in tariff" laws and learned. I also started listening to Hermann Scheer who help initiate these laws (you can find him on YouTube or his own webpage). Freiburg, Germany really blew me away and we have a lot to learn from this town that can be applied here.........they are totally self-sustaining. For a good video on the progress of the German initiative, see: www.thesolarvillage.com. In the upper left hand corner is a good video to watch. Start with chapter 3 (the beginning) and then watch all the chapters. A lot of lessons can be learned by America if we were all aware of the need! We don't have to reinvent the wheel !!!! .....>>>Lee

What excites you about this campaign?
Many remember where they were and what they were doing on September 11, 2001. That morning I made a business visit to a New Jersey medical center with a full view of New York City. It was from the highest point of a high multi-story parking deck that the world changing events unfolded before me. Really…..for the next hours I watched it all.
After the events of that dreadful day I returned to our home tucked away between Northern New Jersey’s soft green hills and beautiful Lake Valhalla. It was during the following days I reflected on what I was doing as to contribute to my community. After a conversation with my wife I decided to get involved, and I started within my local community, The Lake Valhalla Club. After participating at a committee level I was voted to serve on The Lake Valhalla Club’s Board of Governors where I served for six years, three of which I was President. Looking back at the experience, as a Board we made progress by improving the club… and we even made some mistakes. All in all, I believe it is a better place that makes a contribution to bringing our greater community together and building stronger relationships.

I recently have been appointed to serve greater Montville Township on the township’s Environmental Commission. I have hopes that as a committee we can further build energy, conservation and sustainability awareness by offering options along with asking for the participation and the support of the residents of Montville. I consider The Pickens Plan to be a complimentary campaign that offers a systematic plan to achieve the milestone of reducing our dependence on foreign oil and working toward a sustainable world. As a congressional district co-leader along with Jack Costantino, I hope to use both roles to build awareness and by using the old saying….. Think Globally and act Locally. Let’s be moved to become more sustainable; as individuals, locally within our towns, within our county, within our state, within the United States and within the world….we are the trustees so our next generations will be better off.
