Profile Information

Are you interested in becoming an organizer in your area?
Yes
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
I come from a family in the energy industry. My husband's family owned Richland Coal in Kentucky, and my brother is an Environmental Engineer in Seattle. We have researched and studied alternative fuel and energy sources for years. We have looked within our own everyday living for ways to conserve energy and reduce our own consumption. We are proactive in using natural gas, E85 and I have learned how to make bio-diesel from waste veggie oil. I am a very large supporter of wind energy and want to be on the forefront of expanding that exploration to exploit all sources of wind.
What excites you about this campaign?
Taking back America, honoring the legacy that we have been left by the giants that were before us that their gift to this country is not in vain.
What do you want to do to help?
I'm a visionary and I have a gift of putting things in terms people can understand. I can speak, hold events, organize and mobilize. That's my gift. I'm also a pretty good spin doctor. I can market our objective with some great Energy War Propaganda. I have helped in charitable and political fundraising efforts and met with moderate success.

Pickens Plan is looking for district-level leaders for each of the nine congressional districts in Tennessee to build out the "offensive" for the next phase of Pickens Plan between now and Inauguration Day. I received an email from Regional Leader Renee Klink asking ideas for Tennessee Push users who she should reach out to, and you came to mind. I hope you are interested in renewed activity with Pickens Plan and possibly helping to organize the 5th district (did I get that right?) Please contact Renee or me.

Welcome to Pickens Plan and thanks for joining.
I live in Knoxville, and when I signed up to PickensPlan, I looked for groups in Tennessee. There were groups centered in Nashville and Memphis, but not Knoxville, and the activity and leadership in our state in general was kind of weak at the time. I began the group East Tennessee for Sustainable Infrastructure and I would appreciate any input. You can find it here
I can also answer any questions about the plan or navigation of the website.
Please invite friends to the plan, as we need all the help we can get for Congress to take us seriously. We wish to be a million strong by January. There is a now a button to contact congress and a pledge on this page
Thank you very much,
Eric Lykins, Pickens Plan Campaign Ambassador

'Green-collar' jobs a growth area, U.S. group says

Companies are stepping up their environmental initiatives, and that may mean a boom in "green-collar" jobs.

A recent forecast by the American Solar Energy Society found that renewable energy and energy-efficient industries were responsible for the creation of nearly 8.5 million jobs in 2006, and by 2030 that number is expected to reach 40 million.

Colleges and universities are taking notice, according to Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc., a job placement consulting group.

Many have introduced specialized degree programs in eco-commerce, environmental accounting, green and social marketing, and ecological economics.

"The demand for 'green-collar' jobs is really exploding, especially as the cost of energy continues to climb," said John Challenger, the group's chief executive. "Students need to start thinking about developing skills that will give them an edge for these types of careers that did not even exist until recently."

Popular jobs include urban planners, forestry professionals and environmental lawyers, Challenger said. There is also a growing demand for architects and engineers with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit.

Joanne,
TRANSPORTATION is the master key to basic survival, and the cornerstone of the economy. We all know that transportation presently depends on oil production, and oil production is peaking. We must focus first on transportation – it is the highest priority. The PickensPlan to transition vehicles to natural gas is a great start toward 100% energy independence, but is a stop-gap measure till we can transition to all electric transportation. Electric energy is strained without adding transportation demands; so we must focus on drastic efficiency improvement.
Evacuated Tube Transport (ETT) is a patented technology where travel occurs without air friction or rolling resistance (like “Space Travel on Earth”); ETT can accomplish 50 times more transportation per kWh (or carbon credit) than electric cars or trains. ETT is silent, low cost, safe, faster than jets, less expensive than freeways, and is electric so it can make maximum use of wind or PV power. As a visonary I thought you might want to learn more about ETT

Hello Joanne. It is great to see the diversity of talent in this organizing effort.

As moderator of EnergyTalk LIVE at BTR; hosted by AlternativeEnergy.com site, I would like to find reps from these groups to support putting energytalk in every school or community center in every region.

All of the tools and tech support are provided through our company, and we are helping to create training for trainers courses in partnership with Green Mechanical Council and members and organizers of the pickens plan; which has topped 100,000 members in its first month!

With Al Gore’s challenge for 100% renewables in ten years, and Obama’s support for Pickens Plan, the opposition to clean energy in taking a holiday…time to change the locks on the capitol buildings!

Hello Joanne; I saw your advice to Equity Groups about investing in a wind farm...great advice. I would like to invite you to become one of our radio show hosts on EnergyTalk LIVE; sponsored by AlternativeEnergy.com

We offer tech support and hands-on training for energy groups' organizers; Pickens has indeed raised an army, as he said that he would...now it is time to train the leaders of this into an active fighting force. We offer our site as a community resource; anyone can use it and the radio shows are building momentum for bringing energytalk to every school campus in the country.

Hi Joanne,

We could really use someone to help with this effort...

Come join us at the group Paradigm Shift Institute, a proposed nonprofit organization promoting education, innovation, entrepeneurship, and the solving of national and global crises.

I hope you can help us make a future for our children.
