Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
I am a registered mechanical engineer working for a school district that has 7.5 million square feet of school buildings. I am laying the ground work so that I can successfully convince our school board and management to begin installing photovoltaic PV systems in conjunction with a comprehensive energy savings plan. I am scheduled (in 2 weeks) to earn the appropriate certification for the State of Florida such that I will be qualified to design, inspect and do plans review for future PV systems. The school board does not know of my intentions and my departmental supervisor has not officially approved this certification attempt. None the less, I am spending about $2,000 of my own money (and a weeks worth of vacation time away from my family) to earn this certification. How is that for dedication.
What excites you about this campaign?
The fact that Mr. Pickens appears to be putting his money where his mouth is. I also completely agree with his goals for our nation and hope that I can be a part of this legacy he has envisioned.
What do you want to do to help?
I would like to help where You think I could best serve. I would also like to use educational facilities as a tool to convince the next generation that this goal is worth fighting for.

Jon,
TRANSPORTATION is the master key to basic survival, and the cornerstone of the economy. We all know that transportation presently depends on oil production, and oil production is peaking. We must focus first on transportation – it is the highest priority. The PickensPlan to transition vehicles to natural gas is a great start toward 100% energy independence, but is a stop-gap measure till we can transition to all electric transportation. Electric energy is strained without adding transportation demands; so we must focus on drastic efficiency improvement.
Evacuated Tube Transport (ETT) is a patented technology where travel occurs without air friction or rolling resistance (like “Space Travel on Earth”); ETT can accomplish 50 times more transportation per kWh (or carbon credit) than electric cars or trains. ETT is silent, low cost, safe, faster than jets, less expensive than freeways, and is electric so it can make maximum use of wind or PV power. With your engineering and science experience I thought you might want to learn more about ETT
Hi John,
I'm up here in NC, and have been working on starting up a solar installation company. One of my friends is executiver director in charge of building 3 new schools and I am looking for building performance data to convince some very conservative people that solar is cost effective and reliable. Any suggestions?
