Boren was joined earlier this spring by Democratic Caucus Chairman John Larson (CT-01), Congressman John Sullivan (OK-1), and several others in announcing the introduction of H.R. 1835 the New Alternative Transportation to Give Americans Solutions Act, or NAT GAS Act. The legislation, which would significantly expand the use of natural gas as an alternative to conventional transportation fuel, could quickly reduce the nation’s dependence on foreign energy while simultaneously reducing transportation fuel costs, greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles, and urban pollution where dense vehicular fleets are prevalent. Since its introduction the NAT GAS Act has garnered the support of a bipartisan group of 66 co-sponsors in U.S. House of Representatives.

Congressman Boren: “Industry leaders, including Aubrey McClendon, T. Boone Pickens, and many others, have been highlighting for some time now the abundance of domestic gas reserves that we should be developing as a bridge fuel for powering our nation’s energy future. Natural gas is a cleaner, cheaper alternative to traditional transportation fuel and we must harness it as soon as possible to rid ourselves of an overwhelming and harmful reliance of foreign energy sources. The report released today is yet another example of the growing case for increased use of natural gas and for legislation like my NAT GAS Act, H.R. 1835. Democratic Caucus Chairman John Larson, Congressman John Sullivan, and I believe the NAT GAS Act can be a defining moment in the history of our nation’s energy policy – and this report helps illustrate that point.”

Anderson said…: As I sit here, I am amazed that on Fox News is a discussion on energy policy while part of Congress stayed thru their summer vacation because of the "Speakers" reluctance to hold a vote ,up or down, on energy measures. And at the same time watching the town hall video on my computer of Mr. Pickens discussing his energy strategies. Then the phone rings and it is a live conference call by mt US Rep. holding a town hall over the phone . Talking about what? Amazingly also energy.
So I'm greatly encouraged by the activity that must happen to get us off the 700Billion $$$ drain of our countries wealth and future !
I anxiously await what in particular I can do to make the next step happen. And I accept the challenge to involve 5 friends to join the Picken's Plan Energy Revolution Army !
Way to go T.Boone. The first time in quite a while that I see that beyond my own harrassment of legislators with their jobs that this can and will make a difference !!......

If other as doing likewise they gotta be gettin' the message, that we are not putting up with their gridlock and come election time their other job skills better be honed razor sharp. Cause they won't be workin' for us any longer. From what I can tell from FOX NEWS it seems to be stirring them up a bit, but enough for action? We must keep on them. My new thing to send: Don't regulate our energy policy;Do it All, Do It Now; Let the market decide !!!!!!......

Anderson said…: Yesterday I received an Email from my Democratic Senator, Basicly not agreeing with my desires for Congress to consider not only more alternative plans such as the Pickens Plan, but after the President releasing the previous Ban on domestic drilling put in place by a former Pres. years ago and the" Drill Here Drill Now" petition being delivered. Just flat out refused to see the need for Congress to drop their ban also, in a rebuttal Email. I quickly replied and made my point that a multi pronged approach is needed and my displeasure with Congress not doing anything that we the people want done ! I emphasized changes come election time.
So now I will try to just focus on the Plan set forth, as I thought the opportunity for just the drilling part was right now with the Presidents actions and the petition. Why are they so set against using each and every wrench in the tool box to solve this problem??
I'm going to try to be more of a help now in helping my brethren in the Missouri forum, and their program. But I tell you this Congress needs a wake up call as they think they know what's best for us, for what ever reason [greed?] and refuse to listen to the will of the people they are supposed to represent. I wish we could just fire them all and start over? Maybe lobbying is the problem with them catering to the doners of their re-election, I do not know. But it appears from almost everyone I know and talk with that they only act in their own behalf, very disturbing.
