If the Pickens plan (which I support) supported a National Energy Lottery (see blog below) proposal and the 4 million followers donated 5 bucks a week for this Energy Raffle, there would be 800 winners a week or 41,600 winners a year of a $25,000 ...

What excites you about this campaign?
My name is Joseph Armour, and I am an MBA graduate student majoring in accounting. Currently, I live in Northwest Arkansas. After 10 years of working strictly for money, I decided to go back to school to equip myself to make a difference. My desire and ambition is to forge a career pursuing something that is not only profitable for my family, but also something that is worth living and fighting for. Pickens Plan is such an endeavor.

I began my MBA program 1 year ago because I wanted to learn how to run an energy company. My initial thought was to learn how to run a small oil or natural gas company, and then use those skills and experiences to help run or develop an alternative energy company. In my opinion, energy will be the most important national issue during my lifetime. I want to be part of the change.

Within the last few years, a very large natural gas reserve was discovered in my home state of Arkansas. The natural gas reserve stretches across the entire state. It seems like more can be done to facilitate the acquisition of this natural gas within Arkansas. After that gas is acquired, there is the issue of market. How do we bring that natural gas to the marketplace? Mr. Pickens recommends using natural gas as a transportation fuel, and I support that. I would like to know how I may be used as a resource for Mr. Pickens here in the state of Arkansas.

One of the biggest differences in those who just go through life and those who truly "live" is whether or not they chose to stand up when called. Opportunity is knocking at my door, and Mr. Pickens, my bags are packed.

Please let me know how I might fit in to Pickens Plan.

Thank you,
-Joseph Armour

Hey Joseph, my name is Justin Winberry and I live here in Springdale, AR. I too am in the process of getting my MBA through JBU. I share your enthusiasm for affecting change and I too realize that this movement is not only necessary and prevelant because of the global enviornment, but that it also creates tremendous opportunities going forward. I have a very good friend that is involved in real estate for the purpose of extracting the gas underneath. As far as bring the natural gas to market he leases out the land to a driller that pays him annuities on a monthly basis. It's pretty cool stuff. I personally am pretty involved in the wind energy industry and am fascinated by the opportunities that lie there.

I have recently set up a new group specifically for Northwest Arkansas. The idea is for those of us in our area of Arkansas have a way to suggest new ways to help promote the Pickens Plan to other NWA residents and businesses. We are lucky to have such an economically important area in the country with lots of businesses that could both benefit from and help spread the ideas presented by the plan. This is a brand new group looking for members and contributor's to bring fresh ideas and utilize the ideas presented in the group.

Wow. That's a great website, Clyde. Thanks for pointing me towards it.

If anyone wants to explore some compelling, authoritative literature on wind, go to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's website at http://www.nrel.gov/wind/

There are several articles about the economics of wind and the implementation costs of wind farms.

NREL has a financial model for wind. It is at their site.

Hi Joseph,

Propane has been used to fuel farm vehicles for years. UPS uses natural gas and other alternative fuels today, as do some others.

Since propane is extracted from natural gas, it seems reasonable to me that one or the other, if not both, make for great alternatives to gasoline and diesel fuels.

You seem to be on the right track to me. I would be happy to participate in your effort to build one or more business models for wind and solar energy. I am not impressed at all with how our government has approached energy problems during my lifetime, and I am prepared to begin spending more of my own time as a volunteer and, if the opportunity arises, work in the private sector to make things like Mr. Picken's efforts come to pass. I think that the private sector is the only place that this can work -- government is only likely to make a mess of things if they get control of this.

But then, it is unlikely that government could figure out how to control the wind and the sun.

Hmmm. Perhaps we should put Washington to work on that -- it might distract them so much that they would stop messing up other things in our lives!

Let me know what, if anything, I might do to help you on this effort.

Hi Joseph,

Thank you for your interest in the Windspire. I will give you some short answers and I am always available if you want more information.

The estimated installation cost runs around $500.00. The cost of the Windspire is $4,995.00 plus shipping. In most U.S. homes one unit would not provide all the power you require. It will, however, reduce your energy costs from approx. 20% to 40% in most cases. We will have a larger unit available in the future.

The Windspire is considered an appliance, so it can be easily moved if necessary, and is designed for individual buildings. It is only 30' tall so meets zoning and code requirements in most areas and has a five year warranty and is designed for 20 years of service.

With the current tax credits your initial costs can be reduced by 50% or more. The Federal energy tax credits (30%) are due to expire the end of July. This can be prevented if Congress will just act on it. They are bickering over this issue and if they fail to keep this tax credit available it will be a major blow to the solar and wind industry. The Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi can put this issue up to vote, if she just will. Her telephone number is: 202-225-0100. The more people who call her and push for these credits the better. In some states there is also a 20% tax credit, and some cities offer another 10%, so this really cuts the initial cost of solar and wind investments. We cannot afford to lose these credits as it is vital for alternative energy to exist and be a major player in providing power across the country. I hope this information is helpful and we will talk again soon.

Please let me know if I can be help to you in any way.

Aloha,
Bill

Hello joseph; I have been an alternative energy dealer for 25 years and it is with great joy I see a plan for change that America is embracing with such strength in numbers. Glad to help you on your endeavor into American made energies. Study geothermal as well. Remeber that conservation of energy is the quickest change we can make on an individual level, i.e., more insulation, new windows, tubular skylites, CFL's, LED's, smaller personal transports, recycling waste to energy, etc.!!!
