Are you interested in becoming an organizer in your area?
Yes
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
I became interested in the energy industry about two years ago, when I was attending school for Landscape Architecture and learning about sustainability. I have since transfered to UT Knoxville, where I became the first student in the university to declare as a Bioenergy major, which became available in fall 2008.
What excites you about this campaign?
Everything, from T. Boone Pickens at the helm to the possibilities that this plan holds.
What do you want to do to help?
I want to spread the word of the plan and get people motivated to change.

Please stop by and visit our TWO newest 100CLUB members. We are lucky to have such hard working and determined folks on the team!
1. Jack Costantino has brought over 122 new members onboard, and can be seen online frequently encouraging others to bring new members to Pickens Plan. He is also co-leader of his congressional district.
2. Gerry Kempen also has over 120 new supporters. I visited him today, at his very nice Liquor store, "Good Spirits" in Middletown, RI to thank him. Gerry's supporters put us over the top. RI-01 reached the 500 goal today - Inauguration Day. Yippee!
OK, Go Vols. Pickens U - University of Tennessee Volunteers chapter is up and running on facebook. I have sent word of this to our Regional Leader Renee Klink so she can link it to the main PickensU site.
Click the above link to the UT and join it; I can make you or whomever an officer of the group and you can use it to gather and share information with everyone in the Bioenergy dept (and other schools) if you want. There are so many opportunities in the energy industry that you are smart to begin some networking while still in school.
I've spent this past year getting a pretty good handle on what's going on in the energy industry and the politics involved (kind of had to minor in social networking), and I am confident that this Pickens grassroots monster will grow. I look forward to finding more local people with some ambition. Thanks again.
Josh,
I am very excited to hear that there is now a Bioenergy degree available at UT. I went from 91 to 96ish (DNF.)
The main goal of the plan until inauguration day is to sign up as many people as possible so that our collective voice will be impossible to ignore by the 111th Congress. We differ slightly from other organizations with similar agendas such as The WE Campaign and 1Sky because of our economic focus. We are focused on available solutions that can be implemented immediately, preferably solutions that will save us money now and add to our gross domestic product for the future. If we as a nation can focus on rapidly but sensibly retooling our energy infrastructure to meet future demand by diversifying our sources, we will be better of for it in many ways.
Enough pep talk, let's talk about tools to bring the energy issue to the forefront of the American Dialogue. Following the links in Clynton's message below should give you a great overview of how the site works so far. (By the way, this whole "social networking lobbying organization thing" is a brand new chapter in political history; even the President-Elect is following suit with USAservice.org. Our organization didn't fade after the election - we are just beginning to organize and leaders are beginning to emerge.
So don't be discouraged that there is not yet a lot of campus activity at PickensU. Here's your chance to help build that resumee. I was authorized and asked by our regional leader Renee Klink to start the PickensU chapter for UT, but not being a student (UT dropout, technically, so I'm not really an alumnus even) I wanted to wait to find a contact person on campus. The PickensU program is linked with facebook. I started a facebook page for myself to figure out how it worked and helped Stephine Watson start the PickensU chapter for Roane State in Harriman. Stephine got 100 signed pledges on her campus in a few hours.
So, I'm going to go create the facebook page for UT and I'll get back to you. I'm going to pretty much copy the format of Oklahoma State because that's where Boone went to school and the group was created by a regional leader.
I hope we can have a very productive 2009.

Welcome and thanks for joining…now that you’ve taken the plunge here’s what you can do right now to help bump up the pledge numbers before Inauguration day. Download and print this NO SIGNATURE REQUIRED petition form:
When speaking to friends, family and colleagues, either in person or on the phone, ask them if they agree with the objective of American Independence from foreign oil. Just slip it into the conversation between the corporate babble, recipe exchange or play date logistics.
When they say YES (most will), tell them you’re going to include their name on a Pickens Plan Petition for our ENERGY INDEPENDENCE. NO ONE will call or bug them (except perhaps you) to join the organization or do anything further if they elect not to.
Fill out the form with their name, email, zip code and phone and FAX to the number on the form and you’re done. You will get credit for the sign ups toward the 100 club. It’s easy and fast and there’s NO SIGNATURE REQUIRED.
There are only a few days left until Inauguration day. Please do it now!
Thanks,

Welcome. We appreciate you setting up an active account.
After you've had a chance to settle in, please let me know if there's anything I can do to help. The basic first steps are reviewing the current topics in the Forum, and inviting others to the website when you're comfortable. The people here want to do something to foster energy independence and those you invite will find that joining us is the right thing to do.
Here are further steps you might consider, some of which you may have already taken.
- Sign up to lead or volunteer on the Local District page.
- Visit your My Energy page and get involved.
- Get involved with others in your City or State.
- Find and connect with a like-minded Group.
- Start or join a Campus/Alumni group at PickensU.
- Work your contacts to increase press coverage.
- Write to congressional representatives directly.
- Use Pickens Action buttons or call (202) 225-3121.
- Speak out for ending our dependence on foreign oil.
- Write letters to the editor of your local paper.
- Download flyers/etc from here or here.
- Download the Petition and ask others to sign it.
- Start a company to build wind turbines/solar panels.
- Start a financing firm to invest in those companies.
- Tell everyone you know about PickensPlan.com.
Decide for yourself what you can do, but definitely do something.
FYI: Got a message for T. Boone? Contact your Regional Leader
Welcome once again and thanks for signing up.
