Are you interested in becoming an organizer in your area?
Yes
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
I have tried unsuccessfully to get the major of Auburn to require all new commercial construction to add solar panels to their buildings. JUST ONE of the new commercial sites would have fed enough electricity into the PSE grid to provide elctricity to the entire city of Auburn.
I have purchased wind/alternative energy from PSE on my electric bill - just a small step, but we have to start somewhere.
I investigated adding solar panels to our home in Auburn, but the cost was prohibitive. It is frustrating that there is not enough sources to purchase panels from to reduce the cost to an affordable level, & not enough trained installers to get the panels installed at a reasonable price.
This would be another area where jobs could be created that could not be out-sourced...
What excites you about this campaign?
Everything! The possibility to increase alternative fuel sources & get off oil altogether is exciting, but to also clean up the environment & reduce CO2 levels, stop or reduce global warming, & leave the planet for my grandchildren in better shape than our parents left it for us - who couldn't be on board!
What do you want to do to help?
Tell me what you need.

Invitation to join the NW Renewable Energy Group
I have started a Regional group, welcoming comments, ideas, and suggestions for Renewable Energy in the NW Region. Including states from the Pacific, Cascade and Rocky Mountain areas. I realize that some of my Pickens Plan friends are outside this region, but you are always welcome to join and add your thoughts to the discussion. We should be looking at best available sources of energy in our region, and ways to improve the power grid to transfer energy from region to region as it is needed.
Julie,
right under my picture you can "Send a message" from my page. On any page in the upper left hand corner is your name a mail icon and a friend icon. Click on the friend icon to show all friends and at bottom of that page will be a send message to. Easier to just do it from my page. Lets start a serious western WA coordinated effort. You should see what the Spokane people are doing. They ROCK.
Julie,
we are on the same page. I need to go outside and enjoy this wonderful day. I have missed several the past week with a bad cold and have yard work to do. Lets connect and share names. My personal email address if this works for you is
dan@crookedbear.com
I have been communicating with some people but so many more have joined. Lets start doing some serious organizing. I assume you have joined the WA orgs on the board?
Julie,
drop me a line and we can talk about what you are doing and maybe I can help you with Auburn. I am meeting with a Jay Inslee rep Monday after work. I am meeting with my state rep on the 17th and have been working with the local Lynnwood City council members on sustainability. They are working on our sustainability component to the comprehensive growth plan now. I am getting involved in that process as much as I can. There is a way to get what we need to get done. We just have to wiggle our way into it.
Julie,
Welcome aboard. I can't tell you what to organize because it appears to be specific to where you live. Your town or city may have all the right pieces in place, it probably does not.
I am trying to get a meeting with my congressional rep and senators. I have put together a letter with others help and sent it out. I am also trying to affect my city and state zoning laws by lobbying them to change. Anything you can afford to do time wise is what is needed. This problem is big and there is no silver bullet. It will only die by the death of a thousand cuts. Each one of us has a small knife and we need to make our mark.
Each of us has to change our behavior and then change the laws, zoning and attitudes of others around us. If you need help, let me know. I will do what I can though it might not be much. I will help.
Welcome and THANK YOU for joining Pickens Plan. We need you.
$700 BILLION PER YEAR
We are transferring $700 billion each year, 7 trillion in the next 10 years, to unstable and antagonistic regimes. Americans are angry and ready as never before, to take dramatic steps to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. A plan to replace foreign oil with American solutions has appeared on the horizon, we intend to help Pickens turn this hope into reality- energy independance for our country.
SHARE THE PLAN
with your circle of friends, family and associates. Urge them to JOIN. From your own experience you know it is very much like simply signing a petition. The larger our membership the more likely we will be successful in getting Congress to provide effective incentives for alternative and renewable energies and in insuring that our future president will treat energy independence as a matter of the greatest urgency, applying the same kind of leadership as JFK exercised when he led us with his stirring challenge to put a man on the moon in 10 years.
THERE IS NO TIME TO DELAY
…to wait and see…or to see if someone else will step up to the plate. It is time for US to roll up our sleeves and go to work. Right now momentum is working in our favor, but if gas prices retreat, the public will forget the pain, and our moment may be lost. How frightening to think that we could be looking back and apologizing to our children that we chose not to get this done when we had the chance.

PERSONAL ACTION OPTIONS
We need to do more than “preach to the choir”. Sharing ideas with each other is encouraging but that will not 1) increase our membership nor 2) influence public policy. If you know someone in the press or someone who blogs - get them to cover this. Write to your Congressman/woman. Ask those in the public eye to support this plan. Print downloadable flyers and put them in your car and/or business window.
YOU MAY FEEL INSIGNIFICANT
Individually, we each feel the same way, but together we will lay the foundation for a stronger, more prosperous and more secure America. Thanks again for joining us in this historical effort!
A GROUP FOR EVERYONE
Check out the Legislation Tracking and Write Congress groups as well as the various groups for Solar, CNG, etc. Connect, learn and share. We grow stronger with your input. If you don't see a group that speaks to your interest, then start a group of your own.
The tax deduction for claiming renewable energy modifications to your home on your 1040 ends soon. We need to press our elected officials to extend this tax deduction until everyone has a chance to make the needed modifications when either a plan is in place for personal financing on a local or federal level, or the cost of purchasing & installing the panels or alternative fuel sources comes down as more resources & installers are available so that more home owners can afford them.
Contact your local or state government officials & push to create legislation requiring all new construction, commercial & residential, install solar panels on the buildings they construct. JUST ONE commercial building with southern exposure, even in the northwest, can add enough power to the city grid to provide electricity to a city of over 30,000. The utility company could 'bank' the additional income from selling the excess, & offer it to individuals in their service area as low interest loans for purchasing & installing additional solar energy on their rooftops. They can continue to invest in wind energy, expanding our expansion through the wind corriders.
I see a future of solar energy generated by millions of home owners, hundreds of thousands of new jobs created in manufacturing solar panels & other renewable energy resources, hundreds of thousands of new jobs in the blue collar field as installers & maintenance people, & electricians. All higher paying jobs, creating a stronger middle America - reducing unemployment in every city across our nation, & reducing the global warming impact.
