Maybe--But Not Sure What to Organize
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
We purchased a bi-fuel compressed natural gas (CNG) or gasoline Chevy Cavalier about a year ago. It was a fleet sell off and only had 4,000 miles on it. It was basically a new car and we paid $10,000 for it. It has since appreciated in value and we've saved a ridiculous amount of money on gas. Best auto purchase decision we ever made! It runs better on CNG (CNG is higher octane), cleaner and cheaper. We should be able to convert any vehicle we want to CNG but the EPA has a strangle-hold on the which kits are available for installation in this country. That's something I would like to see change. With CNG, there's no reason we can't drive any vehicle we want. We believe GM could save it's financial butt by gearing back up to produce these bi-fuel vehicles. Anybody out there have any influence? Being bi-fuel, they are the ideal crossover for most people. Fuel sites are still few and far between which can be nerve-wracking in a dedicated CNG vehicle. The bi-fuel solves that problem and, with the price of gasoline, you know people are going to run on CNG as much as possible. It's also my understanding that Chesapeake Energy plans to put in about 100 new fill sites over the next few years so availability will improve as people get more comfortable with their new fuel.
What excites you about this campaign?
The idea of using natural gas to power our vehicles. As I've already explained, we have first hand knowledge of how well it works and would love to see many more vehicle choices become available. This campaign could bring that about!
What do you want to do to help?
Spread the word. We already tell everyone we can about the CNG car we have. Lately, we've had people pin us in or chase us down to ask questions. I wonder why?

Merry Christmas Kathryn,
This year I have helped so many members learn about personal home energy plans. It's all about power use, conservation, and home power generation, things I have been doing at my residence to lower my energy costs. Send me a friend request a to add me Kathryn, I'd be honored to have you as a friend here.
BTW, oklahoma: I just posted an article about Home Wind Systems in oklahoma. Your state's representatives, governor, and public utility commission officials are not in your corner with this "soft policy" on Net Metering. Instead they have the tables turned against green power for businesses and homeowners. You should read that article, important.

I have used the same systems save money on my electricity costs from day one and Kathryn, you can too. Your local wind resources are so good in Oklahoma. Check these windmaps and see can you pinpoint what number your area is in. Zone 2 is OK, anything over 2 is (very) good. First double check your wind resources from the map and links below.
No, we are in the rural South and don't have natural gas, only propane. That's why I'm so anxious for solar cars.
(We had solar in the 70's in an older house that we couldn't afford to heat, so along with the tax credits, it paid for us to convert it.....long and complicated, but we were self sufficient)
I know that Clemson University is working on a small lithium battery, smaller than the ones made before and longer lifespan.
Let's keep our fingers crossed they succeed because Clemson and BMW are working together.
I saw the Pickens ad on NBC tonight! Wow! What a victory.
See, maybe we all DO make a difference.
And so does having a dialog.
Keeps us all thinking, pursuing, challenging and hopeful!
Thanks, Kathryn.
Here we have no supply of CNG. It may be a brdge, but I hope that it is only a bridge. My understanding from what I had read in Popular Science and Popular Mechanics is that solar cars are here and will become affordable when they become mass produced. They could become mass produced now, if there is enough pressure from consumers.
How long will it take to get supplies of CNG to the entire country? or even just the cities?
I don't like burning fossil fuels, be it gasoline or natural gas.
I cringe when I hear my congressmen and senators talking about drilling for oil off the coast of South Carolina. And how long, if they find oil, will it take and how does that help the environment and our dependence upon a fossil fuel that is causing Global Warming?
That's just my opinion. Believe me, we are saving my husbands diesel truck for a time when it can be converted into.....something less harmful than burning diesel.
I doubt you know me but I had a friend who had a cabin in 29 Palms so Joshua Tree rang a bell. It would have been about 1979-ish and you're probably too young for that. We used to go out there ever so often. The desert is beautiful at night. My husband would like to move to Arizona when he retires in a few years -- doesn't sound too bad to me.
I understand Kathy - I think thats why I am supporting this effort. For my kids and grandkids - I gotta say, I felt pretty hopeless for a while there. But I am going to keep watching this site - I am sure there will be a " next step for us all". If we make the turn to any renewables - it will lead to using all renewables I think. Keep on Keeping on!
These are great Idea's =Kathryn.
I think you are on to something.... Maybe we should all contact our local car dealers and let them know --- our next purchase will be a CNG purchase....
I like to see Americans being invovled in our countries future - and not OPEC so much. Keep us informed and glad you in the Pickens Group.
To be certified with the State of Oklahoma, you must have work experiance and have completed certification with ASE or CCSA, in the field of Alternate Fuel.
