Hello again. In today's The Virginian Pilot, it is said that offshore wind farm is feasible off Virginia Beach coast line. That is exciting news especially since it said that the project would create 1,000 new jobs. Now that is what we need to get the ecomony going and to help American to get off forgein oil. The big problem is the money for the project, $1 billion. I wrote Sen. Warner and suggested he contact T. Boone Pickins to see if he could suggest some ways to obtain the money.
I would like for everyone in this district to please contact Sen. Warner to let him know you are behind him.
I have received an answer to my e-mail bleow. Here is a copy:
Dear Phyl:
Thank you so much for the information--it is exciting that wind energy in included in the stimulus package. Sen. Wagner has long been a supporter of offshore exploration and recovery of natural gas, since we should be using our own domestic resources in the near term as we develop the renewables and alternative energies.
I would certainly appreciate any information that comes your way that you feel would be of interest to us.
Again, many thanks,
Debra

Thank you for replying to my e-mail concerning SB 1349. I have posted it on the “V2 District” page of Picken’s Plan web site. If you would like to see it, here is the link:

Unfortunately, I am not able to attend meetings to help Sen. Wagner. Hopefully our District leader, Keith Newby will be able to do so.
I have just received notice from Boone Pickens that the US House of Representatives will vote on the “Stimulus Package” probably next Wednesday. The exciting part is that it includes some of Pickens Plan and wind energy is included. Senator Warner is to be congratulated for being ahead of the game. Virginia will stand out as a progressive state taking the lead toward energy independence.
Another source of energy that needs to be explored is natural gas. Pickens has advocated that all government vehicles be run on natural gas. This alone would greatly reduce our need for foreign oil. I would like to see Virginia implement such a plan.
Hello Keith, I wrote Sen. Wagner and here is a copy of the answer I received from his Legislative assistant
Ms. Gordon:
I will give this information to Sen. Wagner. He was so pleased when Boone Pickens came out for wind, since he is in a position to influence a lot of people (and a pretty savvy energy guy!). We have fought so long against a very small, but extremely vocal, minority (mostly in the conservation community) who don't seem to want ANY kind of energy project, green, renewable, or otherwise to go forward. They come to every meeting and hearing and shout down (literally) any bill/project/idea that is put forward. We need a group that will attend any opportunity and provide the counterpoint in these discussions. Sen. Wagner is quite often the lone voice in the wilderness and is regularly savaged in the press.
As I am sure you know, Sen. Wagner authored the Virginia Energy Plan in 2006; which had to have a new section created for it in the Code of Virginia. Prior to its passage, we had no cohesive energy strategy in Virginia and we don't have one now at the federal level. His plan is currently serving as a model in other states. It is a comprehensive plan encompassing all forms of energy including clean coal, natural gas, biogas, nuclear, hydrogen, wind, solar, geothermal, tide, current, wave and biofuels. It also encourages conservation measures and energy efficiency through green buildings, fluorescent light bulbs and the like. He is presently quite involved, through the Virginia Coastal Energy Consortium (which he created), with ODU's development of biofuel using algae and work that is advancing carbon sequestration. He is also involved in earthcraft home construction, among other energy pursuits. Two sessions ago, Sen. Wagner lived in Virginia Tech's Solar House on the grounds of the Science Museum of Virginia. He also speaks extensively on energy issues.
Our energy future is quite exciting, and we need forward-thinking individuals such as you to voice your support for those projects that advance America's energy independence.
Kindest regards,

hello my fellow Virginian's. I read in this mornings paper, Jan. 21, that bill SB1349 is concerning offshore wind energy. This bill has passed in a Senate subcommittee, Sen. Frank Wagner, R-Virginia Beach is the bill's patron. "Wagner said Virginia Beach is uniquely suited for a regional effort because it is close to some of the best winds and has one of the largest electrical substations along the coastling." Let's contact Wagner and let him know we are behind him.

Keith,
Thanks for responding to my request. i'm very excited to see how quickly things appear to be happening, and want to be more involved in our Congressional district. i don't have a particular political view, so i am willing to work with anybody who is serious about achieving the common goal of energy independence. i believe that once we begin to lead, the politicians will follow. These are interesting days. We have a highly energized electorate, with two political partys desperately seeking relevence. i could not imagine a time that presents a better opportunity for significant progress towards a better future. Please let me know how i can be of assistance to you within the district. No task is too small.
Please stop by and visit our TWO newest 100CLUB members. We are lucky to have such hard working and determined folks on the team!
1. Jack Costantino has brought over 122 new members onboard, and can be seen online frequently encouraging others to bring new members to Pickens Plan. He is also co-leader of his congressional district.
2. Gerry Kempen also has over 120 new supporters. I visited him today, at his very nice Liquor store, "Good Spirits" in Middletown, RI to thank him. Gerry's supporters put us over the top. RI-01 reached the 500 goal today - Inauguration Day. Yippee!
