What excites you about this campaign?
The impact on our environment of using the traditional sources of energy is severe. We need to change our energy sources to those that are renewable and safe. The dangers created by nuclear energy and fossil fuels burning need to be eliminated as soon as possible. According to a study done by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) over 75 percent of carbon dioxide emissions come from the use of coal and petroleum fuels. It is time for change.

For the Pickens Plan Team,
On April 22th at Palomar College in San Marcos, CA we will be hosting an Earth Day event which is open to the public. As a 2-yr college to 33,000+ students, as well as being a Hispanic Learning Institution (HSI), this is an opportunity to take advantage of the exposure for our Pickens Plan efforts. Tables, chairs and location will be provided and secured for us. I do recommend bringing canopies for shade, but they're not required. For further information, don't hesitate to contact me.

Enthusiastically,
Armando Telles

Hi Laney,

I've founded a group here at the Pickens Plan called "Musicians fo a Better Future". We're just starting out, and we'd like to arrange performance events in as many cities as possible around the world to promote clean, renewable domestic energy. We need people in every state, including California. We have a few already, but it's a big state, so we'll need more. Most of the people we'll need to make this happen aren't musicians either. We'll need organizers, promoters, media reps, event staff and so much more. Please have a look at our group and see if this might be something you'd like to do.

Thanks for your time,

Rev. Jake

'Green-collar' jobs a growth area, U.S. group says

Companies are stepping up their environmental initiatives, and that may mean a boom in "green-collar" jobs.

A recent forecast by the American Solar Energy Society found that renewable energy and energy-efficient industries were responsible for the creation of nearly 8.5 million jobs in 2006, and by 2030 that number is expected to reach 40 million.

Colleges and universities are taking notice, according to Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc., a job placement consulting group.

Many have introduced specialized degree programs in eco-commerce, environmental accounting, green and social marketing, and ecological economics.

"The demand for 'green-collar' jobs is really exploding, especially as the cost of energy continues to climb," said John Challenger, the group's chief executive. "Students need to start thinking about developing skills that will give them an edge for these types of careers that did not even exist until recently."

Popular jobs include urban planners, forestry professionals and environmental lawyers, Challenger said. There is also a growing demand for architects and engineers with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit.

Hey Laney,
Thanks for the contact. I just love this TBP website. Very much in to the Wind Plan since my son is in the industry and travels from one wind farm to another serving their repair needs. The Texas project will be huge.
