It took only one century to decimate our environment, is it possible to repair the damage and how long will it take?
I believe it is every American’s duty is to ensure we adopt comprehensive energy, transit, food supply and recycling policies and create Green jobs now. We must reverse the environmental devastation we have wrought over the past century, provide a cleaner, greener and more competitive energy sources and guarantee the viability for our ecosystem for all time. Climate change is my primary concern and I urge you to support energy policies that will:
INVEST IN CLEAN ENERGY: Wind and solar energy represent the best hope for homegrown sources of electricity. We must build an infrastructure to get power from where it is produced to our population centers now! In addition, natural gas is plentiful in America, why don’t we use it instead of foreign oil?
RECYCLE, REUSE & REDUCE: All retailers and manufacturers must provide easily accessible recycling for all products they sell as well the containers and packaging used to ship and sell these goods. Manufacturers and retailers are making huge profits selling products, without taking responsibility or shouldering any of the costs to recycle the waste from these items. For example, grocery stores should have an area where all food, personal care, home-making, etc. packaging and spent items (like batteries) can be recycled. Drug stores must provide methods to dispose of waste medications in such a way that these chemicals are kept out of our precious drinking water and away from wildlife. In addition, a national database of recycling centers could be developed as well as a low cost system of transporting these materials (preferably via train) to manufacturers with technologies to give waste products new life. Also, Americans’ must stop throwing food waste in the trash or down their garbage disposals (a tremendous waste of fresh water) and learn to use a garbage pail and/or compost their biodegradable waste. With the tremendous droughts and floods, America is losing millions of tons of healthy soil every day. We must develop a program to rebuild our soil and keep biodegradable waste out of our landfills and sewage treatment plants. Once we have a practical, easy-to-use systems to recycle all our “waste”, new landfills will become a thing of the past and old landfills should be “quarried” for recoverable materials.
CREATE GREEN JOBS: Americans need jobs and just as during the Great Depression, America needs a NEW energy infrastructure. By implementing Green Policies thousands of good jobs will be available for struggling Americans. All Americans will benefit from a clean energy policies that deliver jobs, energy security, national security and a clean environment. It is time for America to change direction and take care of its own problems.
LEAD LARGE-SCALE, RAPID DEPLOYMENT OF RENEWABLE ENERGY: States, businesses and homeowners need a rapid expansion of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects. This will not be possible unless the federal government leads the way, providing infrastructure and investment opportunities commensurate with the scale needed to stop the climate crises.
REBUILD OUR MASS TRANSIT AND RAIL SYSTEM INFRASTRUCTURE AND INCREASE ROUTES: The oil, rubber and auto lobbyists ensured the death of trains in the early 1900’s. We must reverse this decision and ensure there is public transportation available for all travel. This will provide more jobs, reduce traffic congestion and offer a low cost method to travel to Airports, which is becoming a real issue as airlines are forced to reduce their routes and close airports.
MAKE CARS CLEANER: We need to increase the corporate average fuel economy to 60 MPG and create strong incentives for consumers to trade in their dinosaurs for plug-in hybrids. We must help Americans replace vehicles with low mileage and/or in a poor state of repair and get them off the road permanently.
REQUIRE ALL NEW BUILDINGS TO BE BUILT TO SPECIFIC GREEN SPECS and GIVE TAX BREAKS TO ENCOURAGE OWNERS TO REFURBISH EXISTING BUILDINGS: Invest in making existing buildings use half of the energy they use now and legislate to ensure all new buildings to meet LEED Specifications and zero-emissions.
CREATE COMMUNITY GARDENS AND EDUCATE AMERICANS ON HOW TO EAT PROPERLY: We are the fattest nation in the world. Why is that? After WW II, the meat lobbyists worked hard to make us believe we had to have meat on the table every day to show we were “good providers”. What a snow job. Humans are omnivores and the tons of beef, pork and poultry we consume is not good for use or the environment. We must stop letting lobbyists and marketing experts drive Americans’ eating habits and provide unbiased dietary information to ensure all Americans know how to eat well. Think of how much feed corn currently going to feed cattle (which produce tons of methane) which could be used as biofuel.
STOP DRILLING OFF OUR COASTLINES. America's coastlines and protected areas should remain pristine and accessible to all. Subsidies must be transitioned from the oil and gas industry to renewable energy and the Green jobs it brings.
NO NEW COAL PLANTS. From carbon dioxide to mercury emissions, coal is the number one polluter in this country. We must confront the climate crises head on, with the same momentum as we met the challenges of WW II, scrap our plans for new coal plants and instead invest in renewable, efficient energy sources.
NO NEW NUCLEAR PLANTS: Nuclear power has not proven itself to be a sound investment or a safe form of energy production. Now is not the time a new generation of risky nuclear power plants. We can get all the energy we need from cleaner sources which do not produce radioactive waste and threaten our drinking water and communities.
Now is the time to support energy and other critical Green legislation to solve the climate crises, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, revitalize our economy and create good jobs in America. It took us 100 years to destroy our beautiful country, how long do you suppose it will take to restore the delicate balance humans and the wildlife, trees and plants we love and depend on to maintain the delicate balance our ecosystem and humanity rely on to survive.
I hope I can count on your support and if you have any questions or wish to discuss the feasibility of these concepts, please contact me.

There is a perfect storm of events happening right now that create the possibility of a paradigm shift that is urgently needed. We have an angry citizenry due to pain at the pump, a presidential election on the horizon, and a man with a plan to dramatically and imminently reduce our dependance on foreign oil, and provide a bridge to future solutions, who has the resources, contacts, knowledge, wealth and "will" to get it done.
Please share this plan with your circle of friends, family and associates. Urge them to JOIN. As you know, it is simply like signing a petition. With large numbers of supporters, we can put pressure to bear on Congress to incentivize alternative and renewable energies, and insure that our future president will be a leader that will push for domestic energy solutions. JFK once said. "in the next 10 years we will put a man on the moon". He got it done. We need that kind of leadership on energy.
Time is of the essence. If gas prices retreat the public will forget the pain, and our moment may be lost. How frightening to be looking back and apologizing to our children that we could not get this done when we had the chance.
