Maybe--But Not Sure What to Organize
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
I love the Giam Real Goods catalog. I have a cool video on how to convert your car to run hydrogen through the fuel line to either boost efficiency of a multitude of fuels, or burn on its own. It was so inspiring to learn how easy it was to do this, I wanted to start a business converting everyones car for a reasonable price and provide hydro fueling stations as well. "They" say that hydrogen is too hard to make - but what about using the same power that is running all our local Washington electric - dams. Here in Spokane we have an amazing infrastructure for sustainable water power that could easily produce hyrdogen - and why not use some of the solar that is blasting down on us all summer long too?
I've got lots of books on solar, wind, water, gas production, and others to create energy. Only problem is I am not an experienced mechanic, nor do I have much time away from work and my home responsibilities to follow these passions. Maybe this group could provide some opportunities?
What excites you about this campaign?
It would be great to team up with other like minded individuals and make alternative fuels a more attainable reality for us all. I would love to find a way to cut the ties that keep me a slave to the system. If there was a way to lower my costs for fuel and at the same time make some money from my efforts - I could quit my meaningless computer job and do something REAL.
What do you want to do to help?
I can provide information, motivation, and work on what ever needs to be done. I am good at creating viable plans and action steps to reach whatever goals are set. But I need other people around me to make it all come together.

There are many discussion groups on the Pickens Plan website covering a wide range of topics related to Alternative Energy and the Environment. I am the District Leader for the Spokane area (WA-05 group). We could use some active discussions and new ideas in our group. I am trying to promote Alternative Energy and job training programs to the Spokane County Commissioners and City of Spokane, to make sure that we have trained workers for the "Green Economy". We need programs covering everything from building windmills, to improving energy efficiency of public buildings, or converting diesels to run on liquid natural gas.

Hi Liorah!
How are you and Charlie? Seems like we're seperated by more than half a block with all this snow!
A new group has been started for the Spokane area, rather now the 5th Congressional District and I was chosen by the Pickens People to lead the group. I haven't been able to get a hold of Carol and when she took infirm, the group imploded.
The new group is called WA-05, we have 9 active members excluding area leaders and we'd be honored by your presence. Please check us out.
Thanks,
Richard
From what I understand there is a new Sustainability Commission here in Spokane and Mayor Vernon is looking for "green" initiatives to support. I also found this Sustainable Spokane blogspot: http://sustainable-spokane.blogspot.com/
After working at the UW Dept. of Biology for the past three years, I've learned the buzz words that politicians and professors are focusing on like: sustainability, conservation, biodiversity, bioremediation, green architecture, ecofarming, ect. Not that I totally agree with everything they are pushing out, some is great, some is downright creepy. But, I think it is important to connect with people who are dedicated to similar or related goals. And it all needs to start close to home and then radiate outward.
Lead by example first and people will trust you enough to follow. I dont want to sound preachy or like I've been brainwashed by the recent "green" wave that has hit popular culture. I did the following things because they made real sense and I saw other people making these work in their lives too:
The first thing I did when I bought my house was to start working on a food producing garden in my backyard. I also got a few chickens for eggs. I am composting all the waste materials so I can enrich my soil next spring rather then throw it a way. I've been riding my bike to and from work all summer. I've asked the facilities dept at work about starting a recycling program (only to find out that there is no commercial recycling in Spokane?! ) and have been pushing our cafeteria to stop using styrofoam. I use my personal mug when I buy my coffee rather then throw away a cup a day like some many other people do. I bring a basket or re-usable bag to the grocery store so I dont have to use plastic bags. Granted I'm not perfect, but at least I am trying. While these are not specifically creating alternative energy, they are things that I can do on a daily basis that reduce waste and keep me more self-subsistent and healthy.
Future goals: I want to set-up a summer plumbing system that diverts my shower drain down to my garden to water it all with. I'd also like to set-up a neighborhood pea-patch garden in a nearby empty lot and dedicate a portion of the space to a shared methane digestor - turn that stinky dog doo into usable free gas for a neighborhood energy source. I am currently working on a business plan to sell household alternative energy products.
Very cool, I would like to check out the video. The political mess is always a HUGE hurdle. Damn's on streams and rivers are a real mess surrounding them. Mostly because of the environmental impact they sometimes cause, when they are built with poor fish ladders, and so-on. BUT......they can be converted into what your talking about, but it comes with a price tag. How could smart people like you & I convince local governments the practicality of it? Thats always the question......BIG government whats to know how to line their pockets......I know I am probably preaching to the choir. All of us are on the right track.....just don't give-up, or get busy with something else and forget all about this. We are so on-to the next chapter of a revolution......an energy revolution......because needs breed invention, and thats what Americans are good at! Thanks........Joel
We will be meeting this Sat. th 16th, 7pm my house. If you think you can make it...that would be great! please email me here or at
911carol@gmail.com and I'll send you the directions.
Thanks...hope to see you there! Carol
Hey Liorah! Good to see you in the group! Carol is a magnifawonderful group leader and the rest of the group is pretty awsome too. Again, Welcome aboard! Richard
Welcome to the chance to make a difference in our lives!
Here's how you can help.
PLEASE email the Pickens Plan video to everyone you know. www.pickensplan.com. Ask them to JOIN. Ask them to pass it along. Time is of the essence. If every member had 10 friends join today, we could put the number of members over 1 million very quickly!
If we can not get critical numbers how can we take advantage of this golden opportunity? High gas prices have "woken up" America to our plight and a paradigm shift like not other is in the wind. We need to do this now.
So many new members write "I want to help, what can I do?" This is a start. We may not get to the next step if we can not get this one done. Our leaders can not ignore millions of members of the Pickens Plan. We are not there yet. .
If you have a connection to the press- get them to cover this.
If you know someone who blogs- get them to cover this.
If you can write a letter to your Representative or Senator- get them to act on this now.
We added 2,000 members yesterday.... it should be 10 times that!
Want to learn more? Check out the Topeka, Kansas Town Meeting video (on the right hand side, in blue, on the home page). Very informative.
Have a nice day. Please let me know how it goes. Feel free to friend me.

Here are is an excerpt from Thomas Freidman's Sunday article in the New York Times:
Pickens made clear to me over breakfast last week that he was tired of waiting for Washington to produce a serious energy plan. So his company, Mesa Power, is now building the world’s largest wind farm in the Texas Panhandle, where he’s spent $2 billion buying land and 700 wind turbines from General Electric — the largest single turbine order ever. The U.S. could secure 20 percent of its electricity needs from wind alone.
But Pickens knows he’s unique. Unless, he says, "Congress adopts clear, predictable policies" — with long-term tax incentives and infrastructure — so thousands of investors can jump into clean power, we’ll never get the scale we need to break our addiction.
If only we had a Congress and president who just sit down with Boone and Shai and asked one question: "What laws do we need to enact to foster 1,000 more like you?" Then just do it, and get out of the way.
Hey Liorah!
We've got a group right here in River City! Please go to groups and then go to Spokane for pickens plan. Also send a friend request.
We are very active here and trying hard to get the word out.
We Can Do It!!
