Are you interested in becoming an organizer in your area?
Maybe--But Not Sure What to Organize
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
Well, to be honest, I have no experience; that's the very problem I'm trying to overcome. I am currently unemployed and I am conducting a job search for opportunities in the "green" industry (i.e. environmental sustainability and alternative/renewable energy). I was working as a NASA contractor at Johnson Space Center in Houston (doing occupational/institutional safety type work) until a year ago when I was laid-off. I spent the next six months searching for safety jobs (mainly because I had some current experience in safety), but it wasn't until this past December when I came to the realization that I didn't really want a job in safety to begin with. I have a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Management, and my goal is to use my educational background and transferrable skills to begin a career focused on sustainability; bottom line... I want my career to "go green" (so to speak). Houston is not yet the "green" city that it should be (mainly because there is so much focus on the oil/gas and petrochemical industries here), so I'm almost certain that I will need to relocate in order to get my career where I want it to go. My bags are almost packed!
What excites you about this campaign?
The technology behind the alternative/renewable energy industry is simply fascinating to me. It's high time that the United States become a fully self-sustainable country, and we're not going to be able to do that until we can stop importing natural resources from other countries. To become fully self-sustainable, however, we not only need to stop importing oil from foreign countries, but we need to eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels all together (including our own fossil fuels). I can't wait to see the day when the U.S. is able to go to all the OPEC nations and say, "We appreciate you selling us your endless supply of oil for the last several decades, but thankfully, we no longer need your product!"
What do you want to do to help?
I don't just want to help with the campaign, I want to do so much more than that. I want to dive into a career within the alternative/renewable energy industry (please refer to my answer for the "experience" question above). I hope I will be able to make some contacts and do some networking through the PickensPlan Army.
