Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
I'm an artist and oil painter, with an interesting background in fine arts, public relations, marketing and communications!

For fifteen years I've worked in public relations and marketing, in addition to being a free-lance artist. It's amazing how my fine arts background plays into public relations! All the visuals!

Part of my experience includes communications manager for a Northwest port where wind turbine components are imported from Asia. I learned so much about wind energy. I visited wind farms, attended wind energy conferences and trade shows, and met people involved in the wind energy industry. It was fascinating.

In fact, it made such an impact on me that I've taken this experience and translated it into a series of oil paintings about wind turbines. I call it "Power of the Wind." I complete my paintings in my home art studio in Kalama, Washington. I use my own photos, together with pictures and stories gathered from magazines and newspapers, as my reference. I try to tell a story in each of my paintings about wind turbines interacting with the natural environment.

I don't just paint wind turbines, I paint many other subjects as well, like florals and figures, but the momentum for my wind paintings has continued to grow for several years. The minute I finish a painting, I have ten new ideas!

You can see my wind paintings, and other works on my website at http://www.mariewise.com. I also blog about my paintings at http://mariesartjourney.blogspot.com.

Please take a moment to visit my PickensPlan Photos, where I have original photos of wind turbines that I've taken in and around the Northwest, and the oil paintings I've created from them. Enjoy!
What excites you about this campaign?
It lets ordinary people, like you and I, communicate about wind energy and how it impacts our lives.
What do you want to do to help?
Continue to learn, every day of my life.

I live in the Puget Sound country. We have ocean waves off our west coast and large wind blown waves in our Straits of Juane De Fuca and Puget Sound. However, I hear no mention in Picken's Plan of utilitizing technology to harness this wave power or tidal currents to produce electric power. On this matter I hear that the tidal currents under the Narrows Bridge are sufficent to power half of the city of Tacoma, Wash. Why don't we ask Mr Pickens to help us out by also proposing(in his plan) developement of this source of "green power"?.

Hi Marie,

I found you on dan burbank's page. I just finished watching your slide show. Wow! And with that..I have this to say...

I want to invite you to check out the Artists Round-up group.

Because I knew of no other way to do this I decided to do it as a group although it, at least in it's beginning stages, is really more of a roster for artists to sign in and make themselves known to each other and to all those who are now and will be involved in the Pickens Plan. It is possible though, and not unexpected, that it perhaps will sooner or later evolve into being, doing and having as a genuine group.

I both invite and encourage you to at least go and check it out. Once you see it you'll know what to do.

Thanks.

Monte

p.s. your feedback is always welcome.

I have been through your area in years past. As you know we have periods when it is cold and/or wet but there is no wind (in Western Washington and often this is during a period of darkness). To offset our energy needs during these periods we will need hydropower (very effienciently used) and other sources of energy such as natural gas, coal, wood chips, or oil. Wave and tidal generated power might also be available but speaking on a quantifiable basis I do not think these sources will every of themselves be enough for our western washington population on cold winter's night. So, I never studied calculus, but, I do not think with our growing pop we can be energy independent. We can only reduce our dependence in favor of more jobs here for American citizens which is, I believe, very worthwhile.
