Maybe--But Not Sure What to Organize
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
Before I came to America in 2002 I lived in Germany for many years. During the 1990's many wind farm were built in close proximity to local towns and villages. At first, the local people were none too happy about this development, because in their eyes, the windmills were unsightly and ruined the landscape where they were living.
When the people realized the benefits of the wind farms, such as cheaper electricity and less dependece on foreign gas and oil, they accepted the windmills as a necessary part of their lives.
Local farmers were able to cut their operating costs substantiall, and any exess electricity that was produced was simply put back into the national grid which benefited the entire German population. Most European countries, I believe, still import much of its gas and oil from Russia. With further wind farm development, Europe will be able to produce enough electricity to sustain its self without the need to rely on countries who import their oil and gas to them.
What excites you about this campaign?
The exciting thing for me about this campaign is that only a small percentage of land mass in America is populated. This means that there is no need to build wind farms and solar farms anywhere near populated areas. This campaign will also produce an industry that cannot be out-sourced to other countries. Like most new projects, there will inevitably be a large cost to develope it. However, I believe that in time the American people will enjoy stable electricity prices and the cost of this delvelopment will return to the people many times over. Also, this is an industry that can be exported to countries like China and India, the two most populated countries in the world. We need to move on this NOW, there is no time left to waste. So let's go for it.
What do you want to do to help?
The only feasible thing I can do right now is to contact my Congress woman, Jan Schakowsky of Illinois, and have her push the agenda on this important issue. She is a Democrat, and I believe she will do what most Americans want.
