Maybe--But Not Sure What to Organize
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
My mentor works for PG&E in SF and has been teaching me tons about the future of renewable energy. Beyond knowledge I am trying to re-vamp my household electrical appliances so they are either more efficient or are able to create energy. Current project: my treadmill. I am attempting to making it a little electric generator that could power a small LCD television.
What excites you about this campaign?
Energy is a world issue. If we are able to solve these major issues we can export the technology and hopefully solve some equally major economic issues.
What do you want to do to help?
I am an idea person. I hope to bring my insights, creativity, financial background, and strong work ethic to any situation. There is no-one way to solve this thing. The more ideas and perspectives the better.
PLEASE email the Pickens Plan video to everyone you know. Ask them to join. Ask them to pass it along. Time is of the essence. If every member had 10 friends join today, we could put the number of members over 1 million very quickly!
If we can not get critical numbers how can we take advantage of this golden opportunity? High gas prices have "woken up" America to our plight and a paradigm shift like not other is in the wind. We need to do this now.
So many new members write "I want to help, what can I do?" This is a start. We may not get to the next step if we can not get this one done.
Our leaders can not ignore millions of members of the Pickens Plan. We are not there yet. One person can make a difference.
Hi Matt,
There are less than a dozen wind turbines east of San Diego. Most of them are right along the north side of I-8. It's impressive, but only until you see the turbines in Tehachapi and Mojave. There is a cement plant near Tehachapi that runs almost the entire plant from one turbine.
There is a solar or thermal energy farm up that way as well, near an area called Kramer Junction,
I think the Sunrise Power Link represents old thinking. We need more power, but I would much rather see that power produced with turbines instead of conventional generation. SDG&E has not seemed to be much into alternative energy. The last I heard, the will not pay for anything extra generated from on roof solar panels.
I think it's past time for us to move to other forms of electricity production and transportation. There is a kit on the market, albeit expensive ($10,000) that converts a Toyota Prius to a plug-in hybrid. Tesla has just opened their second showroom, they build an all-electric roadster ($90,000) that goes 0-69 in 4 seconds. There is also a company in Carlsbad that is producing 3-wheel fuel cell powered vehicles that get about 300 mpg, if I remember correctly.
Drilling for oil and destroying the coastline is old thinking.
Gas prices are coming down while oil per barrel prices are staying high, maybe because the petroleum vendors are nervous about people cutting down on their driving and getting behind alternative power sources.
As some have said, it's time for a "Manhattan" style project or another race to the moon. Some say it will take 10 years, but with American ingenuity, I think it will be much less.
But back to the Sunrise Link, if this was 20-30 years ago, no one would have even worried about the link. But as a nation, we are far more aware of environmental consequences and being held for ransom, so I really think that is old thinking. SDG&E should be convinced or required to build a clean air generating system east of San Diego.

Let me know how it goes
