Hi Melissa , Here is a tool for all of us to get RE projects started through a recommendation for a new program of US Treasury "Energy Independence Savings Bonds". Savings bonds are normally purchased in $25 increments. This gives a way for just about any American to tighten their belts just a bit by skipping a meal at McDonalds or Pizza Hut and buying a renewable energy, RE, savings bond to support a project and save money at the same time for themselves. The plan is to have a minimum of categories for S-Solar, W-Wind, C-COOP. A purchaser would get on the US Treasury web site and purchase one that is for a project that he/she would like to support via credit card or PAYPAL. A different tab would allow tracking of the projects and transparency in accounting as President Obama has promised we will have in his administration. I've faxed and emailed my representative in Congress already and have a copy of a FAX sent to Nancy Pelosi on my Pickens blog along with more details. On my web page is a link for a new group that was started today called “Energy Independence US Treasury Savings Bonds” Please do not hesitate joining the “my friends” on my PickensPlan web page as well if you like this Energy Independence plan. My email is ke6cvh@yahoo.com.

Profile Information

Are you interested in becoming an organizer in your area?
No
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
No direct experience, but an interest. Does it not go hand in hand with recycling, reusing? My husband has a solar panel in his truck that he plugs in every morning that absorbs energy so his battery doesn't die. All for $10.00!
What excites you about this campaign?
It's about time. We've wasted much of the last thirty years finding ways to block, slow down or even redirect creative energy uses and resources while Europeans have gotten with the program. It's time for us to pick ourselves up and make alternative energy a reality. It will be painful, but the pain later from increases in healthcare costs from ill health (by-product of coal, air and water pollution) and environmental damage will dwarf the cost of change now.
What do you want to do to help?
I can spread the word and already do among friends and neighbors. I live in an area where community involvement is already present. We have begun a metals recycling program (separate from the glass, plastic and paper already rolling), and are in the process of convincing local shops to encourage people using their own bags (getting rid of plastics); there are also people working toward getting solar hot water heaters installed.
