Great Plains Energy Summit -- Omaha -- June 17-18, 2009 -- Leaders from the states & provinces of the USA-Canada Wind Corridor are gathering in Omaha, Nebraska on June 17-18 to plan for action in 2010 & beyond. Through the Great Plains Energy Alli...
What has happened to this group? Did you get disillusioned like I did when
Boone released his wind turbine consignment? Did you know that he has not
invested in any wind development?

Are you interested in becoming an organizer in your area?
Maybe--But Not Sure What to Organize
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
Follow regularly in the news, research on the internet. My alternative energy is my own legs. I own a gas guzzling SUV, but by walking and biking everywhere I go, Ive only used about a quarter-tank of gas in the last 2 months. While I realize this is possible in the urban areas of Omaha, most of the rest of the state is not able to do this, so Pickens plan is a good alternative to fuel our vehicles.
What excites you about this campaign?
I live in a state that has huge potential wind energy - Nebraska. However this state has been extremely slow in constructing wind farms. There have been a lot of controversy over migrating birds, but I believe these farms can be built without disrupting migration patterns. I wish to help push this plan.

Welcome Mike and THANK YOU for joining Pickens Plan.
YOU CAN HELP BY BRINGING 5 FOLKS TO JOIN the site today, so that we can build a voice big enough that Congress will finally have to listen to us, instead of the lobbyists and special interests, who will certainly try to derail this historic effort.
PLEASE DOWLOAD THE PLEDGE on the main page. Print out 10 or more of them, get them signed and fax them back ASAP. When we are millions strong, we can achieve this.
In addition to the PLEDGE, we now also have a RED "CONTACT CONGRESS" BUTTON on the main page, top right. Fill out the standard form and the letter is sent to YOUR Governor and Washington Representatives! Easy breezy. Perfect timing considering the energy bill is coming up. We must beat back the lobbyists!
THERE IS NO TIME TO DELAY
...to wait and see...or to see if someone else will step up to the plate. It is time for US to roll up our sleeves and go to work. Right now momentum is working in our favor, but if gas prices retreat, the public will forget the pain, and our moment may be lost.

PERSONAL ACTION OPTIONS
We need to do more than “preach to the choir”. Sharing ideas with each other is encouraging but that will not 1) increase our membership nor 2) influence public policy. If you know someone in the press or someone who blogs - get them to cover this. Write to your Congressman/woman. Ask those in the public eye to support this plan.
A GROUP FOR EVERYONE
Check out the many groups for Solar, CNG, your city or state, etc. Connect, learn and share. We grow stronger with your input. If you don't see a group that speaks to your interest, then start a group of your own.
PLEASE FRIEND ME so we can keep in touch. I do updates on new member numbers and help with the pledge petition drive.
I have tried several times to join Nebraskans for Energy Independence. The link does not work. Are you going to be
in Lincoln, NE Wednesday for the Town Hall meeting?
'Green-collar' jobs a growth area, U.S. group says
Companies are stepping up their environmental initiatives, and that may mean a boom in "green-collar" jobs.
A recent forecast by the American Solar Energy Society found that renewable energy and energy-efficient industries were responsible for the creation of nearly 8.5 million jobs in 2006, and by 2030 that number is expected to reach 40 million.
Colleges and universities are taking notice, according to Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc., a job placement consulting group.
Many have introduced specialized degree programs in eco-commerce, environmental accounting, green and social marketing, and ecological economics.
"The demand for 'green-collar' jobs is really exploding, especially as the cost of energy continues to climb," said John Challenger, the group's chief executive. "Students need to start thinking about developing skills that will give them an edge for these types of careers that did not even exist until recently."
Popular jobs include urban planners, forestry professionals and environmental lawyers, Challenger said. There is also a growing demand for architects and engineers with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit.
Thanks for setting this organization up. I live in Texas but am from Harvard Nebraska and lived in Lincoln for 10 years while in school. I hope to educate Texans about ethanol and agricultural systems and also inform Nebraskans about Texas wind farms.
My sister tried to put windmills on her farm in Scottsbluff but that community is very old-school german farmers with family rivalries. The wind mills were not recieved well.
Mike, We're in the same neighborhood. I'm a Nebraskan by way of Missouri and Texas, so I've lived in wind corridor all my life. I currently serve on the Earth Day Omaha Coalition board working toward a federation of "green" groups in the area. Let me know where I can help. I'd like to report back to EDOC in August. Also, we're still discussing a 2009 Earth Day theme in which we want the event to be carbon neutral. I think we can build that around a wind theme. Let's connect. Thanks.
It excites me in that it uses wind...at least a renewable. But what really gets me excited is the level of anxiety I experience by having an oil man capitulate, sell his holdings in coal and announce he's going to "Save America." I suspect that Pickens is willing to short oil while he establishes a new way to hook everyone up to already established distribution centers (gas stations) to yet another energy source where he profits beyond our wildest dreams. One of the "whales" as we say in Vegas had to break rank and go with a new plan...but the plan had to be one where the infrastructure already established could be used to exploit the masses. CNG, huh? Well, America is just broke enough and desperate enough to reach out and grab what they see as the only life raft in sight. What's wrong with the electric battery and PVC? That much energy independence for Americans just doesn't fit your business model, does it Boone? Oh, brother.
