CNG Auto Insurance

I am seeking auto insurance for the dual-fuel CNG-gasoline used auto I recently purchased from the federal government through auction. My auto insurance company, 21st Century formerly AIG, says my VIN number is not listed. When I told them about the type of auto I purchased, 21st Century said they could not insure a modified auto, even though this CNG dual-fuel auto appears to have been right from the Chevrolet factory, because they would not know how to value a "modified" vehicle if it damaged. When I contacted my mother's auto insurance company, Amica, they searched three data based for the CNG dual-fuel VIN and could not find it and therefore could not insure it. Without auto insurance, I can not legally drive this vehicle and can not consume CNG as a transportation fuel.

Do you or any one in the PickenPlan organization have any direct leads to assist me in locating an insurance company that can insure this dual-fuel CNG-gasoline used auto?

Sincerely,
Robert A Evangelista

To answer your question about the PP's silence about the proposed Waxman-Markey Bill supporting incentives for greening small businesses; it may be more startling that the Chamber of Commerce has chosen to oppose this initiative which may benefit its core membership. With Starbucks and other known corporate entities fighting for it there may be some potential for success; but there appears to be a negative reflex across the aisle to programs requiring more spending now, even though the long term benefit may provide significant savings and contribute to environmental objectives as well as injecting new jobs into the economy.

The dilemma is we have allowed our economy and environment to be compromised over the last 50 years or so, but seem to be unable to take the long view toward the repairs.

The movement toward conservation and clean energy options will be a long fight with intense resistance by those who feel threatened by alternatives to markets they have controlled for a long time.

Advocates for change will know they're having an impact when the resistance becomes more palpable. Waxman-Markey may be an early indicator of that dynamic. As for PP I believe the Admin has enough of its own fish to fry to focus on the broad spectrum of energy related movements. They may also be reluctant to connect themselves politically to avoid compromising alliances in place or in progress.

Interesting Theory on Oil Prices

2008 oil recap. and what is next by Steve Austin - 2009/01/05

It took only 5 months for the price of oil to plummet from $150 to under $40 in the second part of the year. Meanwhile oil consumption did not even decrease 10%, so what is the real cause of this collapse you may ask?
Hedge funds. Let me explain.

During the first part of 2008, Western economies were already slowing down noticeably and hedge funds gradually pulled trillions of dollars out of the market and parked them in energy ETFs.… Continue

Earth Day Message from Sec.'s Chu and Solis

We have an enormous, urgent environmental and economic task ahead of us, and it is one that we have ignored for far too long. If we are going to create clean energy industry jobs in this country, break the stranglehold that foreign oil has on our economy and punish the polluters who are devastating our natural resources, then we’ve got to be honest about the difficult tasks and tough choices ahead. It’s going to mean telling the special interests that their days of dictating energy policy in thi… Continue
