HI I'm new to this group - I signed up for PP awhile back but life got busy so I've not kept up much with what's going on - does our local group meet in person at like a Borders or Barnes & Noble or some other coffee shop type of place to discuss ...

Are you interested in becoming an organizer in your area?
Maybe--But Not Sure What to Organize
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
Grew up on a family farm in Dutchess County NY state as a child - fire places, pot belly stoves were part of our homes which were older & greatly used due to the electric going out on a fairly regular basis - We recycled-repurposed alot of throwaway items simply because it made sense back then & still does now but folks seem to have lost their common sense & throw away perfectly good things
What excites you about this campaign?
About time that someone who is in a position to get the word out there to Gov't as well as public is talking some sense but talking about Nuke Power after 3 Mile Island & Chernobal is quite foolish when there's so many othe options out there to go Green & Get Off Oil Dependence
What do you want to do to help?
I don't have money to invest & don't know what else I can do other than watching my own personal spending & buying Made in the USA when ever possible - let me know in what ways I can be of help - I'd like to do more than just forward a newsletter or post a yahoo360 note

Home Owners & Regular People Can Do This

This Pickens Plan is much bigger than our gov't can handle

People across America home owners & renters, small businesses & families all will need to stop complaining & start putting their money where their mouths are to make the needed changes - there are things that can & should be done right now

I do hope that with the publicity that the Pickens Plan is starting to generate that more of the "Normal" Americans will be made aware of those changes that they can do & will start to make them & if the changes like solar options aren't readily available in your area then say something to the store managers so that they'll put into their stores those items that are Green for Public Purchase & Use

I hope that there will be more people who are going post ideas that individuals can do Right Now & that a section will be devoted to allowing Green Businesses & Services & Companies to showcase their Going Green Options so that people who want to go green can more easily find someone who's in their local area to ask about how to convert their homes to Green

MrsTin - This may be 10 yrs in future - Have you read this article on giant leap for SOLAR energy out of M.I.T.?
“…Until now, (8-5-08) solar power has been a daytime-only energy source, because storing extra solar energy for later use is prohibitively expensive and grossly inefficient. With today's announcement, MIT researchers have hit upon a simple, inexpensive, highly efficient process for storing solar energy…”

Hi Mrs. TinCT,

We all share a common goal. Check our our Pickens group at "Live Carbon Free" and see what we are promoting. Conservation is a way for us to bridge the gap to the future of alternative energy. Alternative energy of any kind is a few years away from implementing and we can make a huge impact by simple discipline in our lifestlyes. We welcome you to join us at Live Carbon Free and value your input. I am also a member of another organization working is this area. Check it out at www.usgreenhome.info.

New Solar Installation Helps Connecticut Manufacturer Achieve Energy Freedom

WESTBROOK, Conn., and BEDFORD, Mass.--(June 27, 2008)--For the Lee Company, a long-standing icon of American ingenuity with 60 years of heritage in Connecticut, Independence Day arrived a few days early.

Today, June 27, the Lee Company will inaugurate its solar energy system—and proudly embark on a journey toward independence from the use of fossil fuels.

With 1,760 photovoltaic panels on the roof, the 308-kilowatt solar electric system is the largest of its kind to be installed by a manufacturing company in Connecticut, and one of the largest in New England.

Nearly half the size of a football field, the system covers 29,000 square feet on the rooftop of the manufacturing facility. At peak usage, the system is expected to generate the equivalent energy used by 34 homes each year.

The system was designed and installed by Gloria Spire Solar of Bedford, Mass., and was made possible, in part, by a $1.2 million grant from Connecticut Clean Energy Fund, which will defray approximately half of the cost of the photovoltaic system. Additionally, the Lee Company will seek to further defray costs utilizing the Federal renewable energy Investment Tax Credit (ITC) program.

At a time when the Federal ITC program is in jeopardy, the Lee Company’s solar installation may well be one of the last projects of its kind built in 2008 and perhaps longer. Many legislators realize that renewable energy is far too important to this country—in terms of energy independence, environmental protection and also for the much-needed economic boost of ‘green collar” jobs—to let it expire indefinitely. However, the program may lapse until a new administration is in place.

Both the Lee Company and Gloria Spire Solar emphasize that the renewable energy tax credits are critical to future projects such as this one.

“As a member of our community, our state and our country, we are absolutely committed to doing what we can to use renewable resources,” says Leighton Lee IV, facilities manager for The Lee Company. “However, as a business, the realities of funding projects like this one would be difficult without the financial incentives we’ve received.”

“Our belief is that our government will renew the tax credit program by the end of this year,” says Gloria Spire CEO Mark Goodreau. “Until then, it’s having a serious impact on the renewable energy industry. The Lee Company may be one of the last shining examples of large-scale renewable energy projects to move forward this year. Companies not already committed are likely to put projects on hold and diminish renewable energy’s impact toward reducing dependence on fossil fuels.”

Hello Mrs TinCT

It is my opinion that the CT DPUC rubber stamps EVERY rate increse request that comes their way. Especially if it's from their BUDDIES at Northeast Utilities. The DPUC members all live the same area as NU execs. They are probably wife swapping (LOL)

The CT Legislature has also failed the consumer as well. The "deregulation" is a joke. Who ever heard of a utility that is prohibited from generating electricity? And why is it that the DPUC has the power to exclude the State Attorney General and Commissioner of Consumer Affairs from public hearings? That's horseshit! Now CT has the highest electric rates in the US. More lost jobs again, good jobs not WalMart jobs. Last one to leave CT, please shut off the lights. CR

Hi!
my furnace didn't need anything done to it in order to burn the bio fuel. The bio fuel is only 10% (which isn't much....but at least it's something!). I buy it from a local oil company and the cost is the same. I also get all the electricity in our home through CL&P and I choose to purchase from SterlingEnergy......the electricity comes from: 33% wind, 33% hydro and 33% natural gas. It's a little pricey but it will have to do until I figure out how to put my own wind tower up and solar panels.

In response to your post, we have only discussed the tip of the iceberg. We have no intention of going into the City and not doing it completely over. The City Master Architect and Planner we have hired will settle for nothing less.

We've got a very good team working on this, and we've been at it for quite some time.

By building a movie studio, we will need all the artisans we can get, and we fully intend on building multi use buildings out of existing structures and new buildings.

We will also need the support industry that comes with movie making.

Thanks for the post.
