- What excites me is the simple fact that people -- regular citizens -- are beginning to realize that we need to break our dependence on petroleum-based fuels. Some commercials on tv say we have enough (fuel) for the next 60 years. And I ask, what about the 60-plus years after that? We need to work now to create re-newable sources for 60- plus years.
By the way, I have my own "soap box" about the excessive use and waste of petrol-based packaging -- any and everything from the can't-open-the-damn-thing plastic sealed packages for some electronics, toys, etc. to plastic shopping bags to the over packaging that is done to ship goods from the manufacturer(s) (in China and other foreign countries) to US retailers. Consumers / the general public never sees how much waste there is. If they would see all -- or even some of it -- and relate that waste to the cost that is built into every product -- they would be shocked. Personally, I am both annoyed and disturbed by it. (Am currently working in retail and have unpacked many boxes of Christmas ornaments that when you get everything unwrapped you discover that with a bit more thought or planning you could get double or triple the number of items in a carton and have them still ship without getting broken.
As to plastic shopping bags, I have been using sturdy canvas tote bags for groceries since the early 90s. And have probably saved thousands of gallons of petrol by doing so.

The creators of this site have given us the ability, with little effort, to send a letter to our Representatives in Washington and Governor, too. Please go to "THE PLEDGE" (at the very top of this page on the blue header). On the top of the pledge page there are three rectangular buttons- two blue, and ONE RED BUTTON, that reads "CONTACT CONGRESS". Fill in the short, standard form. Done!
DOWNLOAD AND PRINT THE PLEDGE
Carry some copies with you and get as many as you can signed and faxed back to Boone. This is how we build our numbers fast! Be a part of the "100 CLUB" by faxing in 100 signed pledges. Let me know when you are done and I will add you to that growing list!

The more members we have the bigger our voice to Congress! With enough members, they will finally have to listen to us, instead of the lobbyists and special interests, who will certainly try to derail this historic effort.

…to wait and see…or to see if someone else will step up to the plate. It is time for US to roll up our sleeves and go to work. Right now momentum is working in our favor, but if gas prices retreat, the public will forget the pain, and our moment may be lost. Now is our chance to be a part of the solution!

PERSONAL ACTION OPTIONS
We need to do more than “preach to the choir”. Sharing ideas with each other is encouraging but that will not 1) increase our membership nor 2) influence public policy. If you know someone in the press or someone who blogs - get them to cover this. Ask those in the public eye to support this plan.
