When I was the Chairwoman for the zoning board and my stepfather was on the planning commission in 1998-2000, he became compassioned with wind energy. He could not get anyone from any of his boards to embrace wind power. He is now 87, and I would greatly like for him to see wind power utilized in his lifetime

What excites you about this campaign?

That the government is taking steps to implement a green energy iniative. I just wish the States and the lobbyists could be disenfranchised from this whole movement. The governments on the part of regualtions(wait until we try to put wind turbines on our roofs) and lobbyists who represent the natural gas, oil and other special interests that are paid big bucks to keep the carbon flowing.

What do you want to do to help?

Organize locally, help get wind turbines into production. We need the manufacturing facilities to implement green.

Northern Michigan Windpower 2009

The Governors State of the State address aired this week will energize the windpower and solar movement in Michigan. More companies are looking at Michigans potential to be a leader in these industries. At 8:09pm on December 27, 2008, Daar Fisher said…: Hi NMW, I'm the state Internal Communication Director for the Michigan FairTax Assn which works "hand in glove" with goals of the Pickens Plan because by REPLACING the Michigan income tax, families and businesses will have additional disposable monthly income to make energy improvements to their homes and businesses.

How will passage of a MI FairTax do this? It will REPLACE the income tax and current sales tax, with a consumption tax (sales tax at point of retail sale). This means that no more state tax will be withheld from Michigan wage-earners' paychecks. What's more, every Michigan resident-family will receive a monthly "prebate" check, in amount based on family size. This will ensure that NO Michigan family will EVEN BEGIN paying the MI FairTax on goods / services unless, or until, they exceed poverty-level spending. The MI FairTax rate is 0% on all monthly spending to the poverty level; thereafter it's 9.75%. The average effective rate will be around 5.5% (see p.2 of pdf brochure). BTW, Michigan: I just posted an article on my page about Home Wind Systems in Michigan. Your state's representatives, governor, and public utility commission officials are not in your corner with this "soft policy" on Net Metering. Instead they have the tables turned against green power for businesses and homeowners. You should read that article, important.

Only when this effort is big and loud enough, can we insure a paradgm shift of thought, that will force the change we desire. I hope you will help with 10 signed pledges. I have just returned from a 3 week trip to Denmark and Germany and continue to be amazed by the efforts of these countries with the addition of Spain to initiate huge programs in alternative energy solutions for their countries. Germany and Denmark are at the 20+ % of electricity being generated by wind. Spain is above 40% of its electricity being produced by wind. There is much written on the Internet about these efforts and incentives to homeowners, farmers and business people as well. We have been kept in the dark for so long about what others are doing to solve their energy needs, cut their carbon footprint and reduce global warming. America is only 5% of the world’s population but we use 25% of the world’s oil. There is something fundamentally wrong with that equation! We need to change our mindset and the mindset of our legislators to choose the right path for the future of America and our dependency on foreign oil.
