Are you interested in becoming an organizer in your area?
Yes
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
I have been researching the home fueling pumps for natural gas vehicles and looking to start a conversion business. I have also seen advancemants in the hydrogen technologies and want to be a part of the next generation of hydrogen powered automobiles.
What excites you about this campaign?
The fact that I am not alone in the campain to promote cleaner alternative fuel sources and reduce the dependancy on foreign oil. I want to leave a better cleaner enviroment for my daughter and help to promote a cheaper cleaner fuel source.
What do you want to do to help?
I want to get involved with converting gasoline powered engines to run on CNG and eventually hydrogen gas, while making it possible to refuel their Gas automobile at their home from the natural gas supply. I also want to promote legislation for tax incentives to help convert the auto industry to gas and electric power and make it affordable to the public to add these conversions to their automobiles.PLEASE HAVE MR. PICKINS CONTACT ME PERSONALY SO WE CAN DISCUSS AREAS WHERE WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

The EPA has locked the average citizen out of the conversion market. The present regulations have created a cost structure that makes the conversion so expensive that few American citizens will make the necessary investment on a conversion. Support the Drive America on Natural Gas Act and have all of your friends ask their legislators to become cosponsors. This single act in affect removes all of the draconian regulations being supported by the EPA.

One can attempt a niche market approach and offer conversions on vehicles that have EPA approved conversion kits. If you live in a densely populated area this approach will work since enough vehicles on the approved list will be present. However, the dual fuel approach does not qualify for the federal tax incentive, and most people will want the dual fuel approach since the CNG infrastructure is weak. This makes modeling a profitable business difficult since the number of customers willing to make the investment will shrink.

I have studied the conversion market extensively and when modeling a business it is difficult to quantify a reliable breakeven point. It is easy to establish the number of conversions it will take to break even but the high cost makes it difficult to estimate a timeframe that will create a likely hood of success. The high cost will slow the number of available customers making a marketing and sales plan a fundamental key to developing a market in a local environment. The breakeven is a tricky element since the investment pressures of lenders and investors will require a marginal profit in a reasonable period.

Peter,

Check out the Drive America on Natural Gas Act. This act will reduce regulations an allow the average man and woman to get their vehicles converted at a price much lower that it cost now. The average cost of a conversion today is around 12,000.00. That has to change. Pass this info to all of your friends and group members and have them contact the committee members who control the bill.
