Are you interested in becoming an organizer in your area?
Maybe--But Not Sure What to Organize
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
I was a community and industrial development manager for 29 years with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), the nation's largest electric power production and distribution system. I am now retired, but quite active.
What excites you about this campaign?
It is a viable and ambitious jump start to solving our nation's most important economic and national security need--energy independence ASAP. I would supplement it with a challenge to the Southeastern U. S. to develop and implement an economically viable, standardized, replicable design for a new generation of nuclear power plants (the South understands nuclear power and is not afraid of it.). This would be a second "Manhattan Project" with the same urgency as the original Manhattan Project (nuclear fission/atomic bomb during WWII) It could be centered at the same facility--Oak Ridge National Laboratory, currently operated by the DOE. This new generation of nuclear plants could replace aging coal fired plants and meet future expanded electrical power needs of the nation.
The desert Southwest and California could be challenged to perfect solar power production. The Northeast could focus on energy conservation techniques for urban areas. The upper midwest, particularly Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana, could be charged with developing viable natural gas- and electric-powered automobiles, trucks and buses. The Corps of Engineers, TVA, Bonneville Power, and other hydro power operators should be encouraged to upgrade their hydro facilities by installing new, higher efficiency, turbines (like wind, hydro is a "freebie)."
You can tell I'm excited! Thanks for freeing my imagination today! Finally, someone has a real vision and action plan for energy independence.
Phil Hyatt
What do you want to do to help?
I will be glad to participate in any local (East Tennessee) support activity, but I am not in a position to lead such an effort at this time.

(1) Please Go to THE PLEDGE (very top of this page) On the top of the pledge page there are three rectangular buttons- two blue ones and ONE RED BUTTON, that reads "CONTACT CONGRESS" . Fill in the short, standard form. Done! Thanks.
(2) In addition to political support and action, I encourage you to consider a Personal Energy Plan in which you take control of your electricity by using home energy systems. That's what I do for a living, help people with their own home systems. I will be glad to help you and answer any questions. Below is some info and links that will give you an idea of where to start.
Hello Philip, These new roof mounting residential wind turbine kits are shipping now. They are sleek, attractive, and well designed. These are actually a home appliance on the roof, much like an antennae or satellite dish. They are as easy to install as other home appliances, dishwasher, etc. It's a nice clean way for you to begin a personal energy plan. These systems are inexpensive, easy to install, scaleable.
Your Wind blows stronger in the winter, Your Sun shines stronger in the summer months. This hybrid wind/solar system combines these cycles to give a more even flow of energy year round. This homeowner sized wind/solar system provides free power for your home. Many customers have found it easy to become customer/dealers of our kits. Customers can become a dealer with no further investment, they see quickly how people are easy to get interested.
I have used the same systems save money on my electricity costs and Philip, you can too. Your local wind resources are so good in Michigan. Have a look at these windmaps and see can you pinpoint what number your area is in. Zone 2 is OK, anything over 2 is (very) good. First double check your wind resources from the map and links below.
Thank you for joining Pickens Plan.
I live in Knoxville, and when I signed up to PickensPlan, I looked for groups in Tennessee. There were groups centered in Nashville and Memphis, but not Knoxville, and the activity and leadership in our state in general was kind of weak. I began the group East Tennessee for Sustainable Infrastructure and I would appreciate any input. You can find it here
Thank you very much,
