Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
Attended First International Association for Hydrogen Energy Convention in Miami in 1976; webmaster for California Hydrogen Business Council 1998-2004; Directed "Hydrogen Hawaii" for State of Hawaii in 2001; founding member New Mexico Hydrogen Business Council 2004; filmed Cooperation for Energy Independence of Deomcracies in the 21st Century in Jerusalem; attended dedication of Hydrogen Lab in Turin courtesy of EU in 2004. I am very interested in hydrogen prodruction via renewable energy to supplement natural gas; building a natural gas distribution infrastructure incorporating composite pipe for accepting an increasing percentage of hydrogen in the future. I also have a proposal to convert Edwards AFB to hythane and hydrogen with hydrogen generated from the future Tehachapi Wind Complex.
What excites you about this campaign?
I recognize the practical advantage of Picken's Plan in establishing a ng transport network with ng power plants offset by renewable power. We need people like TBP to break the political grip of fossil energy which is preventing the expansion of wind power. Picken's Plan would provide a much more firm foundation of support for renewable energies because it would focus the use of ng on mobile applications, for which ng is ideally suited, and focus renewable energy on creating the all-electric clean urban infrastructures we need so desperately.
What do you want to do to help?
I have proven promotional and media skills. But more than that, I would like to help build a strategy that looks further ahead so we can make a smooth transition through ng depletion to a renewable hydrogen economy. .

For a Change in the Wind, We Must Change Congress

INCREASINGLY AFFORDABLE WIND POWER PRESENTS THE GREATEST THREAT TO THE FUTURE PROFITABILITY OF BIG ENERGY, WHICH PRESENTLY DICTATES U.S. ENERGY POLICY THROUGH ITS PROXIES IN THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH AND CONGRESS. BUT NOW, AS THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY GEARS UP FOR A COSTLY AND DANGEROUS NUCLEAR EXPANSION ACROSS AMERICA, THEY TOSS A CURIOUS CRUMB TO THE POTENTIAL OF CHEAP WIND POWER BY WAY OF DOE'S UNDER-FUNDED, OFT-IGNORED AND UNDER-STAFFED BASTARD CHILD, THE OFFICE OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND RENEWABLE… Continue

Richard, thank you for the reply. The content was amazing and once again an eye opener. I know from speaking with people on the energy subject many are not informed meaning they'll pay until they go broke and never take action. MAjority of our government is bought out before many take office so we they will never act on our behalf and historically that has been the case, not for the people but for my bank account. It has become obvious an elected person can steal, lie and take numerous payoffs for votes without ever suffering any consequences. Yet more time and money gets wasted on pursuing a person who's personal sex life gets aired. The payoffs and bad votes hurts millions while a sexual encounter doesn't have any effect on millions. Financial crimes are never pursued. No one is brought to justice so what alternative do we have as American Citizens to stop the corruption and take charge of our country? Everyone is owned by someone. Then we have our fair share of people in both parties who "look" like they know what they are doing but in fact can't do a google search to get answers. So we really can't expect an educated vote from, especially if someone just bough them.
To sum it up we have a public that is not literate in the energy area uninformed about the shabby performance of both parties and poor energy policies. We have two parties in office who do agree on one factor; share the wealth. Very little, if any, action is taken against these people unless of course they jump into the sack with someone and the enquirer prints it. (lol) Richard, what is a course of action we can take to beat the oil companies and move around the government and wake up the American people? Majority of people are mad but all feel powerless so they simple state there is nothing we can do about it. This is why Americans don't get involved and don't waste time on watch dog sites. There is little trust and faith in politicians and for many years I've always heard this national American slogan "All politicians are crooked" It's sad when we are forced to look at a person we voted for and have to say "you sold us out". AS much as we want to make this site non political we are fighting with them to make change.
The HEV sunds like a great product. LIke other ideas manufacturers are reluctant to build them. My only solution to all this BS is to take things into our own hands. We have to find financing to begin our own energy companies that can build the cars we need, produce alternative fuels and generate electric.

Richard,

Thank you for taking the time to express your thoughts on ETT on the ETT group (i replied there also). Some experts, scientists, and engineers have an initial reaction about ETT that is similar to yours. If they take the time to learn about ETT instead of making judgmental assumptions based on their considerable knowledge in other fields, they usually come to agree that ETT safely offers quantum improvement in transportation value.

Please consider the following facts about transportation and ETT:

Hazardous Material (HM) risks and ETT
All transportation modes have risks and vulnerabilities associated with hazardous material (HM). HMs fall in several classes according to risk. HMs are safely transported by road vehicles, trains, and aircraft, and occasionally there are accidents that have increased damages due to the HMs. Many people “freak out” about things inappropriately. Many might “freak out” if they realized that a nuke bomb was being transported on a train along side the highway they were driving on. (yet not “freak out” about the much greater relative risk of dying from an accident on the highway than from the nuke bomb).

ETT will not be immune from HM risks, however ETT offers the ability to better control hazardous goods than other means of transport. ETT is far more secure than other modes, and the risk of accidents is proven to be more than a couple of orders of magnitude less. Just as airlines will not allow HM in passenger areas, but certain classes of HM is allowed in checked baggage and air cargo according to relative risks. ETT will be the same. Inspected and approved scuba tanks, firearms, or portable plasma torches (or other checked goods that have hazard potential if manually operated in a capsule, but insignificant risk if out of reach of an operator), will be placed in a cargo capsule that will arrive at you destination within a minute of your arrival.

Random Cataclysmic Events and ETT
All transportation modes are at risk of terrorism and unforeseeable cataclysmic “acts of God” like earthquakes, meteor strikes, etc. Roads, bridges and tunnels have many vulnerabilities to “freak out” about. Yet reasonable people realize that terror and “acts of God” calamities that are beyond our control constitute less than 1% of all transportation related fatalities. The relative risk on commercial aircraft is about 1/15th the relative risk of cars, yet a much higher portion of people “freak out” about flying. ETT will be less than 1/30th the relative risk of flying.

High speed trains are at huge risk of terror. There are many miles of unsecured rails at ground level. A single train can haul a thousand or more occupants. A single terrorist with a portable cutting torch could cut a section of rail on a curve derailing one 200mph train into another (400mph impact potential). If the terrorist could not procure a cutting torch, they could use a 4 foot long bar or steel cut in a ramp shape clamp to the rail and lift the wheel flange an inch to clear the rail.

Rational thinkers who take the time to study ETT in depth quickly come to the conclusion that ETT will be at no greater risk of terror and cataclysm than other mode. AND they agree that ETT substantially reduces (or almost totally eliminates) the things that cause 99% of transportation related fatalities.

You make a good point that there are some risks associated with ETT that other modes do not have. If you take the time to read the patent document on the www.et3.com website you will find that there are many proven ways disclosed to mitigate these unique risks. For instance a sudden tube breach would cause automated systems to quickly flood the entire tube branch with air all along it’s length, uniformly slowing the vehicles and providing air cushion between vehicles to prevent collisions. In this way most (not all) of the risk you imagine can be mitigated.

Cost of NOT building ETT
I totally agree that we must invest our limited time and resources most effectively. ETT is less than 1/4th the cost of freeways, and 1/10th the cost of high speed rail, or 1/13th the cost of maglev trains. Yet has more than 10 times more passenger capacity per hour. ETT is not a scheme or delusion, it could be built now with existing production and reasonably priced materials. Most of the parts needed for ETT are off-the-shelf. ETT is over two orders of magnitude less complex than making jet aircraft.

When we spend 4 to 13 times more money for 1/10th the capacity for infrastructure that takes 50 times more energy to operate we sacrifice many other things we could do. The many other benefits of ETT (like far better speed and ecology) are free. The faster ETT is implemented the faster we enjoy the benefits. Investing in modes like trains that are proven to have LESS value than cars and jets, is very foolish and will accelerate our decline in standard of living.

Naysayers
Most people lack the imagination to find ways around significant obstacles to innovation. Fortunately a few have less restricted imagination and are able to surmount obstacles to innovation and improvement in a quantum way instead of slow incremental progress. Proof of this is the fact that most of the world’s population is no longer living in caves pondering the proposal of strapping animal hides to our feet. Most of those who lack imagination quickly come around to realize the benefits when they see others enjoying the benefits of innovation.

Naysayers are with us always, every innovation has had “experts” that proclaimed it to be worthless when it was being proposed, or in early stages of development. There are many reasons for nay saying: some know that the innovation would negatively affect their investments; others have not taken the time to fully understand the proposed innovation; others yet just do not have the capacity to imagine anything new, they must see it first; and finally, a few even after they see the value of an innovation still choose to be naysayers anyway.

ETT is Realistic.
It is fact that many experts have scientifically proven that ETT safely offers a quantum improvement in transportation benefit to cost ratio, and these people are already in the process of implementing ETT – in spite of a few isolated naysayers.

Implementing ETT takes nothing away from the viability of the Pickens Plan. I am a supporter of the Pickens plan, it makes good sense, AND it must also be realized that just like oil, NG production will also peak, therefore NG conversion is a stop-gap to a transition to ETT, that will buy 10 to 15 years more time to spread the transition over.

There is another issue... How do we even give people the power to CHOOSE green energy, generated by wind to begin with? Monopolies do not let go of their unlimited power to control where you buy their energy from willingly, and most states are controlled by oil, nuclear and coal supplied monopoly utility companies.

Part of the answer to this whole problem is to make all states energy deregulated as Texas and New York are. Give people a choice of switching to green energy through their energy provider. Deregulation leads to choices, incentives and lower prices, as these two states show, and the website illustrates specifically, with real world prices you can check on from many providers.

In regulated states, there is no choice and utilities have a monopoly hold on everything. They will not change, or if they do, it will take another fifty years. They have a strangle hold on everyone and will not let them go..it feels kind of like being in Egypt back in the Old Testament days. Consumers are powerless and helpless for the most part, and are dictated to by oil companies and utilities who buy their carbon fuels.

By contrast, if customers have a choice, as they do for long distance service, then they can switch FAST. Consumers can easily switch to a green energy company that supplies all of their power from wind for example.

Consumer demand will drive the green market as well as investors who will supply it to the demand, rather than utilities freezing everyone out of choice and forcing everyone into extinction due to burning carbon based fuels and 10,000 years of buildup of toxic radioactive fuels.

The only thing left is education, which means that green energy providers hire sales people who will educate first, and then sell green energy to consumers who are truly AWARE and making an INFORMED choice.

Make a difference, save the planet www.energy526site.com

At the sites above, you can see much more in depth information, compare rates if you live in Texas or New York and sign up for green power if you live in those states.. Also, find out how to actually make this green energy thing HAPPEN, TODAY.

We cannot wait another thirty years for the government or anyone else to save us. We have the power NOW to change things TODAY.

Should Ballard send a fuel cell bus to the RNC? As a former Reagan Republican and former member of my local Republican Central Committee, I feel qualified to say "no." The Republican Party is dead. They sold out to Big Oil years ago. They vote as a bloc for whatever Big Oil dictates. They hate fuel cells and renewable energy because these promising new technologies have the potential to destroy Big Oil's grip on global energy. The fact that a green economy would restore America's place in world leadership and pull us out of the coming great depression means nothing to these traitors. It's all about profits for international corporations who care nothing about the U.S. or its future.

I go into greater detail here:

How about starting an EcoVillage that is COMPLETELY powered by wind and solar...storing energy in Hydrogen and batteries? Has an H2 EcoVillage been done yet? Might be a great H2 Economy promotional project.

Hello Richard,

Very motivating...thanks so much for the videos. Can we get Ballard to put up a bus to travel to the DNC and RNC conventions or are they going to do this as part of the fuel cell car tour that is now underway? I'd sure like to participate in such a tour. We have no H2 Refueling Stations here in Seattle as yet. I thought that if we did, Ballard would then sell King County some fuel cell-powered buses, and Seattle would live up to its "green aspirations."

I look forward to hearing from you again real soon.

H24ever,
Doug

I know a vehicle can power it. But, remember all pollution has a Oxygen as a component. The more polluted the air, the more Oxygen you get. lol
