Mark, I agree with you 100%. I had the same problems . I gave up and went to my district section (SC-03) and followed the link to the march and sent the emaik concerning the gas act now in congress.

Focus the Nation is a national project of the Green House Network, a 501(c)3 non-profit founded in 1999 based in Portland, Oregon whose intent is to bring together people from all walks of life committed to bringing America into the new energy economy. Their inaugural Civic Engagment campaign in 2008 organized the largest teach-in in US history—educating nearly 1 million people on climate change at 1900 institutions—landing significant press in all major outlets including TIME, New York Times, Newsweek, MSNBC, CNN.com, NPR and major dailies in each state. This year they have helped organize local town hall meetings in which state politicians meet with universities and community members to discuss climate policy at the state and federal levels. Our congressman, Bob Inglis, has agreed to come to Furman to discuss his stance and leadership role in the federal climate change policy debates and legislation as part of this national event.

I agree with you that the Pickens Plan is the only show in town that is headed in the right direction. I see no alternative to using natural gas for our truck fleet. They could be converted in weeks while all the electric or hybrid cars will take years to end up in our garages. From what I have been able to determine the hybrid or electric vehicle has no chance of working with heavy trucks. Hydrogen fuel cells also seem to fall short although BMW is using Hydrogen as a fuel for the conventional internal combustion engine. They claim it gets more power for the size of the power plant and that might work with large trucks that could not carry enough batteries for electric or hybrid power.
Another big area for immediate conservation would be to find some way, rather than ineffective rebates, to get folks to install solar hot water heaters across the southern part of the country.
Countries such as Australia have banned the incandescent bulb to cause a switch to compact fluorescent bulbs. That would help in this country too.

- Richard: I like your start to energy independence. However, I though tariffs in SC did not permit selling electricity to the utility companies. Would be interested in hearing about your experience.
The move to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueled vehicles seems to have hit a snag somewhere. I see little mention of in in the new administration's talk. From 2001 to 2006 a number of CNG and Bi-fuel vehicles were being manufactured in this country. Now they have all disappeared except for the Honda. Is this all due to the emphasis on ethanol? Is the corn lobby going to keep blocking any other source of domestic fuel. I think the urgency to move to a domestic source of fuel is being overlooked by the new administration--at least as far as their public words are concerned.

You can help. Search for members who live near you and invite them to join Push Pickens and sign up for their district group as well. Personally ask people you know.

Boone Pickens and his efforts to send our government a clear (heard) message that we must reduce our nation’s dependence on foreign oil through the use of all domestic energy alternatives. This site is a place to interact with fellow Pickens Plan supporters, keep up with events and opportunities to help get more involvement.
For those of you that have already jumped in and have made contact with your local leader- thanks.
Please, I ask the first sites you visit to get accurate info and articles to see pretty much what the plan is about and where the plan stands, and please come back to these sites often as changes take place regularily. Some are long, please; take the time to get all the details.

There is a group for almost everything. The Forums/discussions on this site are many and you’ll probably find something that interests or concerns you. Some are very long and were started months ago. For the ones that concern you, please keep in mind, events are remembered and relayed differently by those commenting, which as we all too well know equals at least three sides to the event.
After you have read the sites I mentioned, if you need anything else to help you, while you help the push, please stop by. I am proud to put my efforts towards this cause.

The basic first steps are reviewing the current topics in the Forum, and when you are comfortable, letting others know about the website. The people here are interested in making the plan a success and those you invite should be able to see for themselves that this is the right place to be.
Here are further steps you might consider.
- Sign up to lead or help on the District page.
- Visit the My Energy page and get involved.
- Work your contacts to increase press coverage.
- Write to congressional representatives directly.

- Speak out for ending our dependence on foreign oil.
- Write letters to the editor of your local paper.
- Download flyers/etc from here or here.
- Download the Petition and ask others to sign it.
- Start a company to build wind turbines/solar panels.
- Start a financing firm to invest in those companies.
- Tell everyone you know about PickensPlan.com.
Decide for yourself what you can do, but definitely do something.

- My house is a Frank Lloyd style. We use a ground source heat pump for heating, cooling, and hot water. We have just installed PV panels on the roof and are the first in our county to sell green electricity back to the power company. I'm an electrical engineer who designs micro chips for space satellites.
- What excites you about this campaign?
- You've got a well thought out plan! I've thought of becoming involved for years but most other plans just didn't sit right with me.
